How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life) (ABC)
As if last year’s ‘Don’t Trust The B--- In Apartment 23’s name wasn’t long enough yet, ABC now brings us a new comedy series called ‘How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life)’. That’s right, the acronym for that would be HTLWYP(FTROYL). I’ll gladly take suggestions on how to elegantly abbreviate this one!
The show stars Sarah Chalke (‘Scrubs’) as Polly, a recently divorced single mom. Polly moves back in with her mother (Elizabeth Perkins, ‘Weeds’) and step dad (Brad Garrett, ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’) to restart her life. This doesn’t go as smoothly as planned. Polly not only has to deal with her parents eccentric way of life, but also also with her ex-husband, who isn’t over her yet, and her best friend whom she almost dated.
‘How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life)’ could, disregarding that ridiculously long name for now, be fun to watch. The trailer focuses on just one part of the story; it only shows how weird the parents are. This can be fun for a while but a show won’t survive with only one funny aspect. The synopsis shows there are more funny elements, such as Polly’s best friend, whom she almost dated, and her ex-husband, who’s trying to get her back.
However, it is clear that this will never be amazing, just a show to watch when you have nothing better to do. The show premieres on April 3rd, 9:30/8:30c.
Family Tools (ABC)
On May 1st, 8:30/7:30c, ABC will premiere the new comedy show ‘Family Tools’. The show is based on the British sitcom ‘White Van Man’. The series is about Jack Shea (Kyle Bornheimer, ‘Worst Week’), a man who has had a stroke of bad luck with basically everything in his life. When his father (J. K. Simmons, ‘The Closer’) is diagnosed with a heart condition Jack has to take over his father's handyman business. It is not easy to maintain the success of the business, and the fact that his father is keeping a watchful eye isn’t helping. Co-starring are Leah Remini ('King Of Queens') and Danielle Nicolet ('3rd Rock From The Sun').
If the series is going to be anything like the trailer this will be a funny show. I enjoyed watching the trailer and hopefully that will mean the series will be enjoyable to watch too. The show does look a bit simplistic, but sometimes, that’s just what I need after a long day of work. The episode order was recently cut from 13 episodes to only 10 episodes due to scheduling issues.

Which of these shows do you like best?
