What Is Bollywood
Bollywood Indian Cinema
When I first started writing Hubs on HubPages, I spent some time analyzing just how the process worked, where the ads were placed on Hubs, and how HubScores were calculated and what a HubRank was.
Along the way, I noticed that a lot of the Google AdSense ads that showed up on many of Hubs were about things like, "hot girls," or "teeth whitening," both of which are standard fare on the bottom end of the CPC scale of the AdSense network. However, I also noticed a ton of ads were text ads for something called "Bollywood" and also for "Bollywood actresses" or "Indian Actresses."
At first I was concerned that these ads were being targeted at my Hubs for one reason or another and went through some effort to determine which AdSense ads on HubPages were mine versus the HubPages' ads. It turns out that these ads are usually the ones that appear during HubPages' 40% ad share display. Still, I was curious, just what is Bollywood, and are its ads that profitable?
Bollywood Defined
Bollywood, is the informal name for a certain segment of the Indian film industry. Although many people use it to refer to anything produced in Indian Cinema, it technically refers to a specific city in India. That city is Mumbai, and it is "Bollywood" the same way Hollywood is a specific city and not all of American movies. (Although the latter isn't too far from being incorrect.)
India is the world's second most populous country behind China, and some of its citizens are very well educated. As a result, their skills are sought all over the world resulting in large Indian populations living abroad, including in America. Like most people around the world, just because you move away, doesn't mean you stop loving the things you loved in your home country, including the films.
Additionally, it turns out that although Bollywood films have only recently started to penetrate the stranglehold of Hollywood movies on the American conscientiousness, they have been popular in many other areas of the world for a long time.
The women who star in Bollywood films are often beautiful with looks that seem to cross many traditional cultural divisions. As a result, they are a very popular search and their images are widely downloaded. It turns out that there are numerous Hubs dedicated to both Bollywood and its leading ladies.
Now, all that's left is to actually see a film, instead of the satire I saw recently on Phineas and Ferb.
Popular Bollywood Movies
Many Bollywood movies have dedicated fans. Recent popular films include Dhoom 2, Krrish, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, and Chak De India.
