X-Men: First Class. A Film Review
I finally got the chance to see X-Men: First Class which is one of the movies I wanted to see in theaters. Being a fan of the X-Men Trilogy and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I was really excited to see how this group of superheros story began. I was however, a little nervous because of all the young talent that was staring in the film. They proved to be perfect for the roles. Though I never really follow the comic books, I was a fan of the cartoon as a kid. So, I not sure how this movie truly kept to the original back story from the comic books.
Every Legand Has A Beginning
This movie offers a lot of new mutants to the film that the other movies did not mention. I really wasn’t to familiar with all the new characters in the film. However, that did not keep me from liking this film. The two main characters were the young Professor Xavier played by James McAvoy ( Wanted), and a young Magneto played by Eric Fassbender (Jonah Hex). I must say both actors portrayed their roles very well. I was thoroughly impressed with Fassbender's acting as the young good turned to evil Magneto. Though, parts of the movie are slow, overall this film is a must see. It is very character in depth and offers more than just superhero action. Another role I enjoyed was Kevin Bacon as the main villain in this film. He always seems to deliver such a performance that is truly evil when playing the bad guy.
Set during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the mutants who were all on the same side work together to stop a major threat that many Americans would have lost life and destruction like no other. The mutants train together in a special school that Professor X has established so that these mutants can better use their abilities that are far more than human. As the movie progresses to the end, you begin to see sides being taken that will eventually separate the heroes from the villains. Those who want to protect the humans, and those who want to save and work with the humans.
All in all this a great film whether you are a huge fan of the X-Men, or if you just want to see an entertaining movie with outstanding special effects. Although, not the best in the series, I still think that this movie is great. If you have the chance to see this film in theaters it is worth checking it out on the big screen. I would give this film three and a half stars out of five. I’m sure if I new more about the comics this would persuade my opinion even more. Based strictly on the other films, this one is definitely another great X-Men film to add to the series. With an dynamic cast, great acting and awesome special effects, X-Men: First Class is one of those summer blockbuster films worth checking out.
