Is it me or does MONEY seem like the ultimate middle man?
I here people talk about "I'm getting this money" or "money is the motive" or they're spewing out any other slogan designated to promote the ideology of money being some sort of goal needing to be sought after, and I personally don't like it. Before paper money, bartering was the language people utilized to obtain goods, services, needs, and wants. Now this middleman (i.e money) has since taken over, and I believe that although it has its pro's, the con's are extremely overt, and is becoming more of a polarizing issue within the media. I don't know! I rant a lot! Is there an alternative?
Karl Marx spoke a lot about money, and warned about how, as you say, in a Capitalist economy, money becomes the ruler of all, and that Capitalists, who control the system, care only about the production of more money. Their concern for resources and laborers is only to the extent that those things can generate more money. Looking at our society today, his critique seems apt. His solution of course was Socialism. The elimination of private property and the ownership and control over one's own labor.
Aside from economics, he talked a lot about money in a philosophical sense, such as how it was alienating, because it represents an abstract power, that can in many ways override our actual human and societal bonds. E.g. an ugly person can buy a beautiful partner, a public relations campaign can turn a liar into a saint, etc. "He who can buy bravery is brave, though he be a coward." (from "The Power of Money - Karl Marx). Again, these ideas seem appropriate for today's world. It is unfortunate socialism has gotten such a bad rap. Even without fully embracing it, it has some ideas, especially related to the darker side of Capitalism, that are worth paying attention to.
Money was invented so people wouldn't have to cart whatever goods they were willing to trade sell. It was handy, expedient, and easily controlled; the perfect middle man. So, no Radikum, it isn't just you. In fact I'd go as far to say that money is the only real middleman and every culture has used some form of it since time immemorial.

Doesn't it seem like us lower-middle class people are on a "fiscal cliff" everyday of our lives? It amazes me how it seems like the only people treating this whole thing as if it be a crisis like "Bay of Pigs" or "Armaggedon" are the people with the most money. For us...
