Will Man of Steel beat The Avengers for best opening weekend?
The Avengers holds the record for opening weekend box office sales with $207,438,708. Do you think Man of Steel will take the crown?
Probably not. I have high hopes for man of steel, as I'm a fan of both the material and the director, but I don't think it will be as successful as the avengers. The avengers was a perfect storm of box office gold. Marvel spent several years building to that movie, generating hype early and promising fans that they were going to attempt something new. We've seen countless super hero origin movies over the years, but rarely, if ever, did we see a team up like this. Add in Joss Whedon's skill with characters and humor and it was a blockbuster before it even opened. If DC can play their cards right, they might have a contender with a potential justice league movie, but that is still quite a ways out.
I'm not sure what Man of Steel is doing but I just don't think Superman is all that popular anymore. And it's hard for anyone to write a good story involving Superman that isn't either ridiculous or boring because Superman is too invincible to be conceivably in real danger. I personally don't like him as much as Batman or the Avengers, but we'll see what the numbers say.
too powerful? too invincible? most of the villains that superman fights are almost as strong as himself, or possibly more. there's plenty of story lines they can draw inspiration from.
why that picture, also that guy just burned you. Just like how superman will eventually burn the avengers
No, I don't think man of steel will even come close to breaking that record. granted, i think it'll probably make somewhere around like 600 to 800 million dollars, but it won't crack that opening record because you have to remember it's coming out less than a decade since "superman returns" was released, and that movie left a lot of superman fans underwhelmed. therefore, man of steel has a very steep hill to climb.
don't get me wrong, i think it'll probably end up being the best superman movie ever made, but it won't break that record your referring to. however, if it's a box office hit though, i do predict that it's sequel will no doubt break that record, and possibly cross the billion dollar mark if man of steel is as great as i think it's going to be.
as much as I hate to say it, probably not. Nothing but love Superman, but I don't see anything beating the box office sales of The Avengers any time soon.
Tough bet. The Avengers was lightening in a bottle. It shouldn't have worked considering all the personalities involved, yet was great and great business as well.
Superman has been done to death.. I am eagerly anticipating Man Of Steel, but beating out The Avengers will be a hard task!
No way. It will have a good opening weekend, but it can't complete with The Avengers. I don't think it will match the opening weekends of Iron Man 3 or The Dark Knight Rises either. I really hope it's good though because there hasn't been a good Superman movie in over 30 years.
I saw the Man of Steel and this movie was done expertly about Superman's beginnings.
The fight scenes were quite overdone and too long but I hope it matches The Avengers. I have not seen it but saw the preview and it's really 2013 comic book stuff. Here - the Man of Steel was in the top five - grossing big bucks.

Is a crossover between DC and Marvel movies inevitable? The rampaging success of super hero movies continues with Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel on deck. Given how things have gone and looking ahead, is it possible DC and Marvel may do a movie crossover?

Just wanted some thoughts on who in the DC Comics realm, needs to make an appearance to the big screen. Obviously, Batman's been done as well as Superman. In my opinion, Flash needs to be done, Green Lantern needs re-done, and Wonder Woman is long overdue for her big screen debut. Now Batman will...
