What is your favorite performance by brilliant actor and comic genius, Robin Williams?
As we all mourn the loss of the truly gifted Robin Williams, my mind is flooded with all of his truly wonderful performances on television, film and stand-up comedy productions. Here are just a few that I am reminded of: Mork & Mindy (1978-1982); Good Will Hunting (1997); Dead Poets Society (1989); Mrs. Doubtfire (1993); and, Aladdin - voice (1992). If you can just narrow down your favorite performance by Robin Williams, please share which one and why. Thank you answering and remembering.
Hello Faith. I am still reeling a bit from the news...Robin was a favorite of mine. Sean Maguire in “Good Will Hunting,” and not because this was a Boston film with our home boys, Matt and Ben. :-) I think this role encapsulated who Robin was…and his adlibs in the script were superb. For example, the part about how his dear departed wife “fahted” in bed. When Matt started to laugh and look off to his right, he was checking to see if anyone would yell cut. The director didn’t, of course, and that bit remained in the film. RIP dear Robin. Thank you for this question, Fath. Hugs, and I hope you enjoy your Sunday.
By the way, Robin's participation in the film helped get it made. He took a big cut in salary but had faith in the film, and in Matt and Ben.
I agree totally, Genna. That role, as you have stated, truly encapsulated who Robin was, indeed! I am glad that bit remained in the scene. Thank you for sharing that about him taking a big cut in salary. Great answer. Hope your Sunday is lovely.
I'll go for his role in The Fisher King which I thought was simply fascinating because he played the role of a guy reduced to nothing through awful personal tragedy and yet there was still a sensitive human being in there, child like and inspiring, and yes manic.
It was as if Robin Williams the actor was working things out as the movie progressed - creative comic persona versus distraught questing male - you saw the whole spectrum of his talents.
I also loved his cameo performances on such shows as the Muppets and Sesame Street. Spontaneous comedy with a message that didn't seem contrived or trivial.
Hello chef-de-jour, Ah, yes, The Fisher King was a truly fantastic role, just for the reason you have described here! I had forgotten about the Muppets, so thank you for mentioning that one too. Awesome answer!
"What Dreams May Come" is my all-time favorite of Robin WIlliams even though it was not a comedy. If a movie could also be a painting, this is that movie.
Hi Kim, wow, that is a beautiful way to describe that movie, and I agree. Awesome choice. So glad to see you, and I pray all is well with you and your family. Hugs
I loved him in mrs.doubt fire he is truly missed and he played on happy days I like that picture to. I will always remember him for his laughter on this show.
Hi tameka carodine, Yes, I remember laughing so hard while watching Mrs. Doubtfire, what a role! Thank you for sharing your choices here. Have a wonderful evening.
The English teacher in me will forever love Dead Poets Society, BUT how can anyone leave off Good Will Hunting? I love them both even though you only asked for one. LOL
Hi Doris, I know, it is so very hard to just narrow it down to one, as I cannot seem to do it LOL. Both of your choices are truly great movies no doubt about that and his particular roles in each are excellent.
There was a very touching one where he played the role of a doctor ina hospital. His wife or dear friend died in that one. Can't remember the name.
Of course he was a comic genius, but I found this particular film quite touching.
Hi manatita, Thank you for answering, dear heart. When are you going to publish a poem? Hope all is well in your world. I am terrible with names of movies too.

Before anyone starts to bash me for this topic, I would like to point out that I am NOT calling Robin Williams a coward by any means. If anything, I too was upset by his death, as he was one of the main reasons why I got into movies to begin with. Hell, even during some of his bad ones,...
