The Best Car Movies

What Do You Think Are The Best Car Movies of All Time?

The best car movies of all time is a subject open for considerable debate. It is impossible to put a list of the top ten or even five films together without generating some disagreement so let me outline the very scientific analysis that I did of these movies to put this list of the top five movies together (and let us agree to disagree before we even get started.)

This list was put together after careful research, study and analysis. I looked at the top results on the internet, put them together and added the results up. Those sources included places like Hot Rod magazine and Edmunds.com. Then I considered the movies with the best Amazon customer reviews, which are an excellent source of information from ordinary movie viewers like you and I. Finally, I consulted my resident movie expert, my husband.

You will see the results of my effort shortly. The odds of this list actually matching a list you might put together are not great. However, these top five car movies are unquestionably excellent movies and amongst the best of all time.

Gran Torino, although I would not call it a "car" movie. Is "Christine" on the list somewhere?

The entire time I was reading this lens, I was seeing the chase in The French Connection. Now that is an old movie! 1971 and one of the best car chases ever!

Bullitt was amazing for its time, sort of a groundbreaker. Apparently I don't watch a lot of car movies as I don't recognize many on your list but I did really like Gran Torino. How can you not like Clint Eastwood? The story was really good too.

@drifter0658 lm: Well, at least to one source then, you nailed it. I'd never even heard of Death Proof until I started to research this page. Needless to say, my ever growing movie list is getting longer and longer!

@SusanDeppner: Have to say I'm not very familiar with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang although it could be the only car movie on this page with a car that can fly...

@tandemonimom lm: Gran Torino was a HOT car; the movie was excellent, too.

I guess I'm not much of a car movie fan, oh except maybe Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Now, that was a car! But that movie didn't have Clint Eastwood's handsome face . . .

Oh boy, I would put Gran Torino at the top of this list; but then, I'm of the "a movie is good if it has a good plot, and a car in it is fine too" persuasion.

LOL...so I give my recommendation for best car movie ever and cite the chase in it as the best ever; lo and behold, the video for the top 10 puts mine at number 1! Vanishing Point would be my number 2 ;)Awesome lens!
