Books About Chick Flicks
Use The Best Chick Flick Books To Pick Your Next Movie
Whether your interest is in finding a new chick flick to add to your movie list or learning more about the chick flicks that you have already seen, female movie lovers are going to LOVE these movie guides which I have discovered over the course of the last few years as my love of movies and interest in them has grown and blossomed.
The three excellent movie guides for women discussed on this page include The Ultimate Guide to Chick Flicks, Cinematherapy and Cinematherapy Goes To The Oscars. All three are great resource books when you are looking for some direction for choosing women's movies or for more information about the movies themselves.
On this page, you will also find a few other top-rated guides to women's movies, a bit of information about chick flicks although I have certainly NOT attempted to define them, an entertaining video which digs deeply into the reasons why women love this genre of movies (actually, it may make you wonder WHY we bother) and links to more movie reviews of movies that appeal to women.

The Ultimate Guide To Chick Flicks The Romance, The Glamour, The Tears and More! - By Kim Adelman
The Ultimate Guide to Chick Flicks: The Romance, the Glamour, the Tears, and More by Kim Adelman was the first book I accidentally stumbled across in this genre and I keep going back to it. It boasts 230 pages of movie information about movies including a year's worth of movie recommendations, both of well-known and of little-known movies. Chapters include titles like, "Wishful Thinking ~ Why Motion Pictures Are Like Real Life, But Better" and "Hunks Wanted ~ Prince Charming Personified" and "Pass the Kleenex ~ Definitive Tearjerking Portraits of Love and Death." It also includes a great chapter with discussion points and another with a fun chick flick quiz.
"What is not to LOVE about this book? It's fun, totally handy, and it makes the perfect gift! I already bought a copy for my little sister. All of my favorite movies (and tons I never knew about) are listed, deconstructed, and discussed in this super-fun book. The calendar section which lists a chick flick-a-day is my favorite bit!" ~ Carjoy
Cinematherapy The Girl's Guide To Movies For Every Mood - By Nancy Peske and Beverly West
Cinematherapy: The Girl's Guide to Movies for Every Mood by Nancy Peske and Beverly West is one of a series of books about the movies by these authors. This one is set up so that you can pick a movie to match your mood with chapters like "I'm Gonna Eat Some Worms: Martyr Syndrome Movies" and "Nobody Understands Me Like You Do, Girlfirend: Girl's Nights Movies" and "Someday Has Come and Gone and My Prince Still Hasn't Shown UP: Happily Ever After Movies." Whether you use it as intended to match movies to your moods or not, this book still provides a wealth of information about women's movies as well as lots of interesting trivia and quotes.
Cinematherapy Goes To The Oscars - By Nancy Peske and Beverly West
Cinematherapy Goes To The Oscars: The Girls Guide to the Best Movie Medicine Ever Made, a second book from the Cinematherapy series by Nancy Peske and Beverly West, is a book which focuses on the oscars and how award-winning movies are a window into "ourselves, our relationships, and our times." This book analyzes movies by the decade with chapters starting with the movies of the 2000s and ending with the movies of the 1930s. (Although this book was published in 2004 so the 2000s are not overly well represented.)
This book is about the movies and about the Oscars as well. The Oscars are an important portion of American history and those Oscar-winning movies are not always just about entertainment. Sometimes they allow us to analyze ourselves and our world including conflict, loss, success and adversity.
Cinematherapy Goes To The Oscars also includes fun ideas and information including tips and recipes for hosting an Oscar party, famous and not-so-famous quotes from the Oscars and movies that were rightfully or wrongfully excluded or included.
