Are you, as I am, a fan of film noir? If so, I would reccommend renting The Killers (1946) starring Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner. Its based on a short story by Ernest Hemmingway. An insurance investigator looks into the reason why an ex-boxer and former racketeer winds up in a small room, working at a gas station, and then calmly waits as two hired gunmen come in and kill him.
I would like to see Quentin Tarantino do a remake of this film, its great! Also, why not give the Humphrey Bogart classic, The Maltese Falcon a look.
Do you like Kung Fu movies, as I do? Then I would reccommend a couple of classics: The Kid with the Golden Arms and Avenging Eagle.
What's great about these movies is that they are available over the Internet - but wait for it - if you have one of those thingamabobs that can transfer data from your computer to your big screen television in the living room - there you are, movie night in the comfort of your own home and its free!
But if you just want to go out, and therefore, require something more contemporary, then two movies I enjoyed a lot are Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio (a fantastic psychological thriller that actually fakes you out in making you think its a horror film) and Sherlock Holmes (with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law).
Oh, and Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds was great. If these are still playing anywhere, I would recommend these. Of course, it also depends on whom you're taking with you. Is it your significant other? The George Clooney film, I think its called "Up in the Air." Its about a man who flys all over the world firing people because these companies themselves are too chicken to do it themselves. This is a romantic comedy.
#1 Funny :The movie 'KickAss' - starts off stupid but ends GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the little girl.....
"Book of Eli'
Now that's a tough question, since you didn't list any genres or particular interests . Personally, my own tastes in movies are kind of off-the-beaten-track, but possibly the closest to mainstream that I've seen lately and thoroughly enjoyed was Seven starring Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. Other than that, a couple recent favorites have been The Namesake, Water, and Trade, though the latter two can be difficult to watch. If you don't like subtitles, that cuts out a whole bunch of recommendations I might have . I have a handful of movie review hubs up currently, and will have a lot more up in the near future as I have about 250 total, so maybe I can give a few more suggestions soon.
