I am not normally a gospel listener, but I have always been moved by this version of "Keep your hand on the plow" by Mahalia Jackson amazing, as performed at the 1958 (I think) Newport Jazz Festival with Duke Ellington's band, especially as you get towards the end of the song (starting at about 3:50):

Of course this is quite jazzy gospel, but her voice is a thing of power and beauty.

Mahalia Jackson, I Believe, but is that Gospel or Spiritualist?  Or are they one and the same?  I like Bob Dylan's, Keep Your Hand on That Plough, In My Time of Dying, and Fixin' to Die.

My favorite gospel song from my youth has been "In the Garden"...

"I come to the garden alone; while the dew is still on the roses.  And the voice I hear falling on my ear, the sound of God discloses...and He walks with me and He talks with me.  And He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known!"

There is nothing more important to me than my communication with Christ.  I am so priviledged to be able to talk with AND to hear the responses from the Creator of the Universe!  WOW!!!

To think that an Awesome GOD would conversate with little me!  Such an honor.

I have many "favorites" but to pick one, I will say John P. Kee's version of "Lilly in the Valley"

Amazing Grace -- many artists have sung this beautifully -- Yolanda Adams has a good modern version.
