What method do you use when writing a song?
Do you come up with lyrics first, then melody then chord sequence or how do you do it ... slowly finding my way but interested to hear what approach works for you (and what style music may be relevant I guess)
I play the drums in a band with my friend and he plays guitar and sings. As far as lyrics go, what we always do is improv jam and see what we come up with. Then he'll navigate the music and hum melodies which eventually turn into words. For us, the music always comes first. I've been writing some lyrics on my own while I play guitar, again with this, I begin with chords and notes until I get a basic feel down. I'll let that inspire the lyrics and then I'll write them down.

I am always at a loss at what decides a good song? Is it the profundity of the words? Or, is it the guitar riffs? If it is the thoughts of the singer and their impact upon the society, you may as well go read a Plato or a Noam Chomsky. On the other hand, if is the haunting music, it could be easily...

When you listen to music do you just listen to the beat and rythm or do you listen to the lyrics.I use to always listen to music with the flow and beat and only the main parts of the song I listened to. Eventually when I got older I listened to the whole tune of the song, lyrics, beat flow.But...
