Are the Hobbit Movies okay for kids under 13 to watch?
The prequel to The Lord Of the rings,is this okay for children to watch?
That's a good question to explore for younger children because our culture exposes little ones to everything. Protecting children from that which their young minds are too immature to absorb and deal with in a beneficial manner is important. My opinion is that those movies are too intense on nearly every level for children's emotional comfort, much less their mental ability to separate reality from fiction. Each child learns what they see, but it is crucial to remember that each one learns what they see in different ways. Waiting until they are old enough to understand discussions with parents who have a mature perspective before and after the movies is the best choice. Thinking that young children are more mature and able to responsibly handle the violence (and more) that popular culture puts into their little minds is a terrible unjust harm to them and to society.
Overall I would say it's slightly tamer than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but not by much. There is a lot of orc fighting, so depending on how you feel about that, it might be no big deal. I would say that a child 10-12 wouldn't really have a problem with it. Any younger than that and they might get bored and/or be scared by the monsters.
