   After hearing and reading a lot of opinions on Cardi B's new music video, WAP, I felt that I had to watch it myself and see what the commotion was about. After viewing I can see why churchgoers were triggered by the video. Cardi, along with female rapper Meg Thee Stallion, showcase and promote female empowerment and independence. They also do not shy away from their sexuality, rather they embrace it. While the song itself is a great statement for female sexuality and empowerment, it was met with harsh criticisms.
   
   Many people, especially people of faith, have criticized the video for being too sexual and giving girls the "wrong message."One politician, James P. Bradley, put out a controversial comment saying "Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion are what happens when children are raised without God and without a strong father figure." This comment itself is very inappropriate since Meg's father passed away when the rapper was only 15. However, the criticism the video receives is not uncommon for female singers and rappers. When female rappers explore their sexuality, they are labeled as whores and sinners. When male rappers do it, however, they are seen as icons in the eyes of their fans. This video and its criticisms expose the reality of the double standard that is not only seen in America, but in the world.

   I have no interest in Cardi B or the video, but anything that "triggers" church-goers is fine by me.
