After talking to most people about their thoughts on "Wonder Woman 1984", many people HATED the film because they didn't like how Wonder Woman was a rapist in the film, yet glorified as a hero. Some even went as far as to say they immediately dismissed EVERYTHING else in the film that was good simply based on that one incident where Wonder Woman allegedly raped a man.
For those of you who haven't seen the movie, I'm going to give away a spoiler here, so please stop reading if you don't want the film ruined for you. Anyways, as some of you may know, Wonder Woman's love interested, Steve Trevor, died in the first movie. But he's magically brought back to life in the second film via some magic wishing stone.
To put it simply, the wishing stone works sort of like "the monkey's paw", where it grants your wishes, but it takes something away from you as well. For wonder woman, she loses her powers essentially due to her wish to having Steve back in her life.
Anyways, since Steve's body is long past dead, his soul ends up in the body of another man that he "possesses" for lack of a better word. And long story short, she swoons because her first love is finally back in her life. blah blah and they have sex together. Or at least, it's heavily implied that they do.
Unfortunately, this is where the controversy begins. While it's true that Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor, who's possessing another man's body, both consent to sex. However, many film critics and audiences main issue is that the guy, who's body is being possessed, never consented to it, and it's later revealed after Steve dies again that the guy has no recollection of what happened to his body while Steve had it. So does this make wonder woman a rapist in your mind?
And if so does it bother you so much to the point that you absolutely refuse to acknowledge anything good about the movie? And instead just outright call it shit because wonder woman allegedly raped a man? please discuss.
Sounds like these movie critics and fans have nothing better to do than to create problems where they do not exist for the sole purpose of garnering attention.
If this were a legal matter, in a court of law, and magic such as this were possible: Yes, it is rape. It is both spiritual, and physical rape.
Since this is a fiction: No, it isn't rape; it's a pretty interesting plot device used in a novel and creative, albeit tactless way.
Personally, however, I immediately find all western heroes to be, "shit," as you so astutely put it. I've always preferred eastern heroes from European mythology, or even those from Asian novels. Westerners are always plagued by moralism, especially in their portrayal of heroes, and those that aren't come off contrived. Wonder Woman, her character, always felt like a token in the hero universe to me; but that is my confirmation bias based on my limited perception of pop culture around that character.
All in all, so long as we keep shoehorning social issues into every facet of life, we'll keep breeding those issues where they were not existent before. Fortunately, though, we can all utilize this tactic for profit. Just look at the type of articles I choose to write as far as serious topics go; quite literally, I don't believe 99% of the crap I write, but people love to read and discuss it for some reason.
I love your honesty. And oddly enough, I think most people that try to be social justice warriors, or SJW for short, usually don't believe in most of the stuff they claim to be standing for honestly. I could go into it here, but that would be an entirely different topic altogether.
I don't think Wonder Woman 1984 was that bad of a movie honestly. Granted, it's not a great one because even I had issues with it, but none of them had anything to do with the alleged rape incident honestly. Overall, I'd probably give is a 6 out of 10, but that's being extremely generous considering I could give it a lower rating if I wanted to, as there were a lot of things wrong with the movie itself.
As far as the alleged rape scene goes, I can definitely see why some people would have issues with it. But it's like you said, it's all fiction honestly. And sure we can call Wonder Woman a horrible person for not wanting to have Steve give up the body he possessed until the very end when she was forced to renounce her wish for the good of the world, and how the original owner of that body never consented to sex. However, the main point of the movie was happiness based on lies is never a good thing.
That was the main overall theme of the film, and granted the movie didn't carry out that message as well as it could've, but Steve coming back the way that they had him come back did play a huge part in that theme. It was showing that her happiness was based on a lie, and that until she learned to let go of Steve, then her life could never move on, which I thought was made perfectly clear throughout the film. Granted, they could've executed it a better way, but it still made sense within the narrative they were trying to tell. At least, that's my two cents.
I dont support rape.
Butt if wonder woman wanted to rape me, i would not, put up a fight.

According to Collider Movie News, it was revealed that the comic book writers plan to make her bisexual, as their logic is that since she grew up in a world inhabited by nothing but women, then statistically Wonder Woman would either grow up being either full on gay, or bi. No word yet on...

Just wanted some thoughts on who in the DC Comics realm, needs to make an appearance to the big screen. Obviously, Batman's been done as well as Superman. In my opinion, Flash needs to be done, Green Lantern needs re-done, and Wonder Woman is long overdue for her big screen debut. Now Batman will...
