In recent news, Brett Ratner was fired as one of the Academy Awards Producers when he made a joke involving the word, "fag", and an allegedly tasteless interview with Howard Stern (I don't know if it was truly tasteless, as I didn't see the interview, but this is what imdb confirms). Needless to say, this didn't bode well with Eddie Murphy, according to some reports, as he claims that he's quitting the Oscars in light of this issue. Although, he did go on record saying that he respects both parties' opinions, but since Ratner is out...so is Eddie Murphy.
Here's a couple of links for more details:

Anyway, what are you're thoughts on this? Do you think the Oscars did the right thing? Or do you think they over reacted? Is it Eddie's loss? Or is the Oscars loss? What are your thoughts?
Hard to believe Murphy is not going to host the Oscar because Ratner is out....maybe they became close during the shooting of Tower Heist...I wonder if they can bring back James Franco and Anne Hathaway.....they can not be worse than last year....as I do not think that is possible.
Yeah, that's true. It's kind of a shame that he left because I was actually looking forward to seeing him hosting it next year. As for Franco and Hathaway, I agree that they couldn't possibly be any worse than they were this year, but I think getting a comedian host is still the way to go. Personally, I'd love to see Conan O'Brien take over the hosting job, as it'll be interesting to see what he'll do. Or maybe they should bring back Billy Crystal then, as he was always entertaining when he hosted the Oscars.
Funny (as in funny-sarcastic).
I dunno about Ratner, but Murphy's always been known to repetitiously spout lewd and offensive language (no matter how much I admire Eddie's talent). And yet people are offended at an anti-homosexuality remark?! Just goes to show how mighty the Left's ax has become that anyone would even consider bowing down to their standards.
Yes the Oscars over-reacted. At least, compared to their already-low standards.
It's kinda like the devil tryin' to cast out the devil. Doesn't work.
I think Murphy's statement was both tasteful and thoughtful. Ratner strikes me as an egocentric insensitive clod. It's too bad Murphy's hosting duties were so closely tied to Ratner's production.
We haven't seen Murphy do any live comedy in quite some time and I was looking forward to his hosting the Oscars. In fact, I was planning on watching for no other reason.
As to Murphy being "known to repetitiously spout lewd and offensive language," ever hear of Chris Rock or Richard Pryor? How about Lenny Bruce?
Most comedians, including a sizable number of women comedians, use "lewd and offensive" language. They wouldn't be nearly as funny otherwise.
I think you make a lot of valid points. However, there have been some comedians that have managed to be funny without using offensive language like Jerry Seinfeld for example. Don't get me wrong, I understand perfectly what you're getting at, but I was just pointing out that being funny without offensive languages has been done before.
Larry the Cable Guy could host the Oscars and it wouldn't change the hypocrisy being who gets the awards and who does not.
Maybe Oscar the Grouch should host them? Rather fitting.
No thoughts on it? Then what's so funny then? Surely, some thought about it must've made you laugh.
Okay, here's my one thought......and I'm suppose to care about this why exactly?
Well Cags, I hate to break it to you, but the instant you comment on a subject it automatically shows some level of interest in the subject matter; hence only you can answer why you're so interested in this topic to begin with to comment. If you didn't really care, then you never would've bothered to comment.
Your logic is flawed. I have no interest on the topic...I do have interest in making fun of the topic.
Again, your logic is flawed. I comment on things half the time for amusement purposes and half the time for serious purposes. The thing I like most about it is that I get to decide which is fun and which is serious, not you or anyone else.
Oh Cags, must you turn every time I try to joke with you into a pointless debate.
Besides, your exact reason to be interested in said topic is irrelevant. The point of the matter is that you had an interest on some level to even bother making fun of said topic, by your own admission. Meaning, as you pointed out, you're main interest was to make fun of the topic; hence you were interested in it to some degree to even bother making a comment at all about it. Whether it be in jest or not. Besides, if I was to make a forum about say....the joys of basket weaving..would you want to comment on it..yes? no? If you looked at the forum, and decided not to comment at all, then that would be an example of showing no interest in the topic. However, if you did look at the forum, and decided to make a comment (whether it be serious or in jest), then it still counts to a degree that you even cared enough to muster a reply.
So you see, my logic isn't flawed Cagsil when I say that you have some degree of interest.
However, to each their own is what I say, so cheers.
Hey Hollie, I don't ever have that problem. Sometimes I wish I did.
I get up at 5am, start work at 5.30am, work until 9.30am stop for 1/2 an hour. Continue to work until 2pm, mess around with my hubs, other work, until 5pm. Eat, mess around in the forum, do things around the house. It's now 9.12pm in the UK. I have no thoughts.
I'm so depressed about it! and I will remain depressed about it for at least until at the end of the day.
No Eddie Murphy? Oh well I only find him funny when he's voicing an animated donkey now.
They should get Shia la Boff and that leggy whatsername from Transformers- Rise of the Fallen to host, Megan Fox too. Get Michael Bay to produce it.
Oh bring back Billy Crystal for chrissakes, is Bob Hope still around?
I don't know if Bob Hope is still around, but I agree that Billy Crystal should be brought back. Idk about the whole transformer movie reunion to host the oscars. however, it should be interesting to see who they get to replace him.
Although, I still say that seeing someone like Conan O'Brien could be interesting if you ask me.
If that's Murphy's opinion, then I say good riddance. When it comes to Oscar hosting, even great comedians like Steve Martin don't clamour to host the show multiple times. Hosts that entertain the studio audience - show business people- quite often don't entertain the home audience and vice versa. The only modern host to entertain everyone is Billy Crystal and he can't host every year. He's this era's equivelant of Bob Hope-everyone loves him.
I thought he might make a dire show more watchable, but if he is treating a job like a high school friendship drama, meh.
I remember Eddie Murphy presenting an award on one of the shows and before reading out the names he stopped to complain about the scarcity of black winners at the Oscars.
I seem to remember that too. Why present an award when you are not happy with the Oscars? Wouldn't you get your message across better by boycotting the way Marlon Brando did the year he won his second Oscar? That would make a much stronger statement. I was surprised when he was the person to present the Humanitarian award to Jerry Lewis. I didn't realize they were friends.
Eddie had Brett's back and stood his ground. Kudos to Eddie on his decision.
Maybe having a guy's back should involve telling him that fag jokes are not cool.
Announced today: Billy Crystal will be back as the host of the next Oscars. Crystal will be sure to please both studio and television audiences
Great news! This made my day. Loved Billy's Oscar shows.
Eddie Murphy did some horrendously hateful and homophobic routines in the 80's, so in a funny kind of way I'm pleased that by proxy those same kinds of attitudes have resulted in him missing this opportunity.
I haven't seen these routines, but I've read about them. In general, I am aable to separate an actor's career from the person, so while I watch him in a film I can see him as that character. But as the host of The Oscars, I would have seen him the man. And I have to say, that I have no time for homophobia.
Movieline posted this -
...the comedian Tweeted today. “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions,” read Crystal’s post. “Looking forward to the show.”
A joke is a joke period end of story if you take oddense to it you need to readjust your outlook on life!!! Lifes hard but people are quick to say a word hurt them and people comes to there aid such a bs contradiction.
No, a joke is not a joke. Homosexuals are still routinely beaten up and I don't find jokes about minority groups funny, period.Would Murphy enjoy a bunch of white comedians talking about n_______ -no I don't think so.
as another example unrelated to homosexuals to show as an example, there are plenty of male comedians who make jokes about rape. It's just a joke, right? Tell that to the person who has been raped or the is related to someone raped.
I'm glad Ratner resigned. His comments on Olivia Munn last week regardless if they're true were just ridiculously in poor taste. And using such a horrendous slur against any group is just intolerable. People may not have watched if he had produced and they certainly would not take lightly to him interjecting a similar sort of humor in the show. I know I wouldn't have.

Well it's official. Eddie Murphy will be your host of next year's oscars. what are your thoughts?

In recent news, Eddie Murphy commented that there will not be another "Beverly Hills Cop" movie because, and I quote, the recent drafts for the script were rehashes of the previous films; thus he felt the script ideas that he was getting felt contrived and forced. Therefore, I...
