Modern Family - Three Generations of Funny Ladies
Modern Family is an Amazing Family Comedy
I love funny sitcoms, and one of my favorites is Modern Family. If you haven't seen this comedy, yet, you don't know what you are missing. While the entire cast is extremely talented, for me, it's the three generations of funny ladies that make this sitcom a long-running hit.
Gloria - The Non-Traditional Matriarch of the Family
The um...matriarch of the family is the extremely gorgeous and high-strung, Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (Sofia Vergara). Gloria is married to Jay (Ed O'Neill) and mother to Manny Delgado (Rico Rodriguez) and Joe Pritchett (Sierra and Rebecca Mark). Gloria is also step-mother to Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) and Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Gloria is Columbian, much younger than Jay, actually closer to Claire's age than Jay's, and very emotional. Despite her shortcomings, Gloria loves Jay, his entire family and does everything she can to be part of the family. However, her accent, and her temper, often allow hilarity to ensure. For those that wondered, Vergara has gone on record she doesn't mind playing a stereotype in the sitcom.
Claire Dunphy - All American Mom
Claire is a stay-at-home mom who is very serious. She is the mom to Hayley (Sarah Hyland), Alex (Ariel Winters), and Luke (Nolan Gould). Claire often struggles because her three children are very different and her husband, Phil Dunphy (Ty Ferguson), is pretty much a grown child. The scenes between Claire and Gloria are often hilarious because Gloria makes Claire feel very insecure.
Hayley and Alex Dunphy - Polar Opposite Sisters
Hayley and Alex Dunphy are sisters, and that is where their similarities end. Hayley is obsessed with herself and has a tendency to make bad decisions. Alex, on the other hand, is too serious and is often frustrated with her sister and everyone else in her family.
Lily Tucker-Pritchett - Adorable and Sassy in one Tiny Package
Lily Tucker-Pritchett (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) is the adopted daughter of Mitchell, and his husband, Cam (Eric Stonestreet). Even at her young age, Lily has a tendency to steal the scene. She has the temper of Mitchell and she is just as sassy and glamorous as Cam.
Why I Love Modern Family
With such a big cast of funny ladies, it is no wonder that Modern Family is a favorite of moms like me. No matter what generation you find yourself in, there is a lady in this cast that you can relate to. I also love the fact that this cast doesn't try to be a normal family. Instead, they are a modern family who is trying to make things work - even when things get a bit awkward.
