Nishikido Ryo is best known for his role as Aya Ikeuchi's loving friend Haruto Asou in the tearjerker One Litre of Tears but did you know that the handsome Japanese actor is a pop superstar in his native Japan? Ryo is a member of hugely popular J-pop boy bands NEWS and Kanjani8 so he is famous for his singing chops as well.

Ryo is also embarking on an acting career in movies, having appeared in 2010s Chonmage Pudding where he plays the main lead Kijima Yasubei.

1 Litre of Tears also called A Diary with Tears or A Diary of Tears) is a Japanese television drama for Fuji TV about a girl who was diagnosed with an incurable degenerative disease at 15 but was able to continue her life until her death at the age of 25. Aya Ikeuchi (Erika Sawajiri) at the age of fifteen was diagnosed with a spinocerebellar degeneration, a disease which malfunctions human's motor function eventually making them paralytic. Ryo plays Haruto Asou, a student who patiently stands by her until the end.

Ryo Nishikido was born in Hyogo on November 3, 1984 and raised in Osaka. He made his major debut in 2004 as both an actor and a singer, belonging to two popular Johnny & Associates boy bands, NEWS and Kanjani Eight. In 2006, Nishikido held his first solo concert. Ryo has also appeared in TV dramas but it was his leading roles as the tough but compassionate student Haruto Asou in 1 Litre of Tears, Nakahara Shota in Attention Please and the girlfriend-beating Sosuke Oikawa in Last Friends that gave him acclaim and attention.

Nishikido appeared in a movie for the first time , playing the lead role in summer 2010s Chonmage Pudding where he plays the lead, Kijima Yasubei, a samurai from Edo period Japan who somehow slips forward in time 180 years to the present

Ryo plays the role of very jealous boyfriend Oikawa Sosuke in Last Friends and has lots of scenes of him displaying domestic violence on his girlfriend Aida Michiru (Masami Nagasawa). This clip shows him attacking Ruka (Juri Ueno), Michiru's tomboyish close friend with whom he feels jealous of.

Michiru's mother has brought a man back to their home and she is bullied at her workplace where she works as a beauty parlour assistant. She starts cohabiting with her boyfriend, a good young man who works at the Child Welfare Division and the only person who can give her emotional support, but ends up the victim of domestic violence and becomes fearful of love. The boyishly charming Ruka was a classmate of Michiru's in junior high school. She has performed brilliantly as a motocross racer and aims to win the national championship, but as the story progresses, a deep worry that she can neither confide in her parents or close friends grows evident. Takeru is a hair and makeup artist acquainted with Ruka. He is a good confidant to females due to his kindness and perceptiveness, and finds himself attracted to Ruka but has a phobia of sex as a result of a past trauma. The three of them become house mates and through their associations with others, gain the capacity to be positive about life.
