So what's your ideal stroller?

The stroller you choose will largely depend on you and your child's needs. One of the things you might need to consider is how often you'll be using the stroller, Will you be using it daily or just for the occasional holiday? You'll also need to buy a stroller suited to the age and size of your child. Some strollers are made a lot more roomy than others. Some are easier to fold or steer than others. So shop around and read the numerous reviews and question and answer sections posted by parents on Amazon.

Below, I've reviewed four of the best performing strollers on the market. If you've used any of these strollers yourself or have a favourite of your own, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of the page.

The First Years Ignite Stroller Review

The First Years Ignite stroller comes high in features and low in price. It's proved to be a big favourite with parents since its launch 4 years ago. Just check out amazon where over a thousand parents have posted favourable reviews on this super stroller. Here are some of its best features:-

  • It's a great stroller for tall parents. With a way above average handle height of 40 inches, this is the ideal hunch-free stroller for taller parents who want to avoid getting dreaded back strain.
  • It's an ideal stroller for taller or older children. This is a really spacious stroller with an extra wide and high seat and a 50 lb weight capacity. This makes it perfect for taller children and also gives it a longer life usage as it'll easily carry a 5 year old on these occasions when it's still needed.
  • It makes a great travel stroller. The First Years Ignite stroller only weighs 40 lb and is easy to fold and open, making it great for taking on holiday or for trips to the park or mall.

Like everything else in life there are one or two not so good things about this stroller too. The small sunshade offers limited protection and can't be adjusted either. You can get around this problem by using a RayShade UV Protective Stroller Cover which fits perfectly on to this stroller. The seat covers aren't removeable either so you might want to think of using a stroller liner that can easily be removed and washed when it gets dirty.

Graco LiteRider Classic Connect Stroller Review

It might not have the bells and whistles of a high-end stroller, but at only $60 this budget no frills stroller is excellent value for money. You can read what users have to say about this very durable stroller on Amazon, where there is overwhelmingly positive feedback by satisfied parents. Here are the features that parents were particularly happy with:-

  • It can be used as a travel system. The stroller is compatible with all Graco classic connect infant car seats. In effect, it could be used from birth right through to toddler hood and beyond if using it with a compatible car seat.
  • It's a very sturdy stroller. The recommended weight capacity is 40 lb but users say that they have used this stroller with kids over 50 lb as well as using it to carry heavy shopping.
  • It has a huge storage basket. When I say huge, I mean this stroller can carry a ton of stuff. You can easily fit a couple of bags of groceries in the basket along with a large diaper bag and more!
  • Can be folded with one hand. The one hand fold mechanism is super easy to use. Users testify that it can actually be folded using only one hand which leaves your other arm free to hold your little one.

The Graco LiteRider Stroller is fantastic value for money, offering a lot of features for the price. Users did have a couple of small gripes with this stroller though, the main one being that the child tray touches the ground when folded causing it to scratch. Given the price and quality of the stroller, most parents felt that this was a minor inconvenience that they could live with.

Jeep Cherokee Sport Stroller Review

At only $50 this really is a budget stroller that offers very good value for money. It doesn't compromise on quality either and is robust enough to be used over rough terrain. More than 400 parents on Amazon have reviewed this super smart stroller with 80% of users giving it a 4 or 5 star rating. Here are some of its best features:-

  • It has a three tier extended canopy. This comes down much further than most canopies offering really good sun protection, so great for hotter climates.
  • It has shock absorbing all terrain wheels. It can handle rough terrain but comes with a much smaller price tag than other sport strollers.
  • It looks much more expensive than the $50 price tag! If you're looking for a stroller that's smart as well as functional then you can't go wrong with the Jeep Cherokee Sport Stroller. It comes in several gorgeous shades too.

Weighing less than 12 lb, this is a great travel stroller too. The one hand fold mechanism does take a little practice to get used to though and can be tricky to lock and unlock. Another thing to bear in mind is that the child cup holder isn't big enough to hold a standard sized sippy cup.

Cosco Umbria Stroller Review

If you're on a really tight budget and just needing a stroller for travelling on holiday or occasional trips to the mall or park, then this little stroller might just suit your needs. This no frills stroller is basic but still comes with useful features including a sun canopy, storage basket, mesh parent tray and child tray. Overall a great buy and does the job its meant to for under $40. Here are what parents like most about the Cosco Umbria stroller:-

  • The price of course! You won't get many strollers under $40 that does exactly what's required of it.
  • It's very compact. This will easily fit into your car boot and is ideal for travelling around airports or public transport.
  • It reclines. Unlike a lot of budget priced strollers which don't recline, this one does, allowing your little one to comfortably have a nap.

So what's the downside to this stroller? The biggest complaint seemed to be the lower handles which makes it uncomfortable for taller people to push. So probably not the stroller for you if you're taller than average. It also has a fairly narrow seat so might be a tight squeeze for bigger toddlers. All in all a great stroller to buy if you're on a budget though.

Hi Devika, It's an expensive business being a parent. If there is any way to cut costs, it's worthwhile considering.
