Making Every Minute Count For Life Means So Much

Making Every Minute Count

The way the world is these days, things can be so hectic and overloaded with stress coming at us from all sides. So, how can we go from being overloaded and stressed out, to be calm and balanced? We can begin by going slowly, adding in the things that will build us up while getting rid of the things that will tear us down.

  • Try setting aside one night a week as a "family night." Every one is at home. No one goes out anywhere, no one decides to hid in their room all night long, and no one chooses to sit in front of a TV or at the computer by themselves.
  • Find and look for simple ways to spend family time together.
  • Cook your favorite meal together.
  • Go for a walk down the street, around the block or to a park.
  • Take a bike ride after dinnertime.
  • Play a board game.
  • Read a book aloud.
  • Play musical instruments and have a sing-along.
  • Make your favorite snack to share.
  • Sit around the table and have each person share at least one thing that happened to them during that day.

  • Children love having one-on-one time with a parent.
  • Make a "date night" on a regular basis with each of your children.
  • Take a son out to breakfast or a daughter out for a manicure.
  • Go take a hike with a son/daughter at a favorite place you enjoy visiting.
  • Make a visit to the local library.
  • Whatever you choose to do it doesn't have to cost a lot, but the dividends you will receive from time spent together will be huge.

  • Take advantage of and savor the unexpected moments in life.
  • Go for a car ride. It can be a great time to talk with your children and get insight into what might be going on in their lives outside of the home.
  • While waiting in line for a movie or a sporting event to start, give each other a hug.
  • As you are sitting awaiting a doctor's appointment in the waiting room, read a magazine together.
  • Do some volunteer work together. There is nothing quite like serving others to help bring a family together.
  • Work in a soup kitchen serving those in need.
  • Visit a nursing home to bring smiles and company to those who may not have any visitors otherwise. We get quality time together, and someone else gets a much needed service or visit.
  • Join a Habitat for Humanity team to help build a home for those who wouldn't be able to afford one any other way.

The options we have before us are endless and it is always a win-win situation. Any time that you get the opportunity to spend quality time with your children can not be anything but a win-win situation.

Hi Keri thanks for stopping by and commenting and also for the follow! Spending time with family and making great memories there's nothing else quite like it. Sometimes the best things in life are free...hugs...laughter...playing scrabble...the list goes on and on and on...

So glad you enjoy this, hug someone you love and have yourself a great day! :-)

Hi Hyphenbird, His daughter and Brinafr3sh thank you all for your wonderful comments!

Hyphenbird, it's wonderful how you spend time with your son. Making memories that will last a lifetime. And thank you for the nice comment about my family!

His daughter, to make the most of each day and moment is a wonderful prayer indeed. I agree, doing what He has for us to do is what counts for all eternity.

Brinafr3sh, thanks for sharing how your family spends time together. Great ways to make wonderful memories.

It's great to know this is inspiring others to spend time with their family. May we all make more great memories with our family!

Have a great day all and give a hug to those you love!

      :-)

Hi, this is a very needed article for families to interact together and build positive memories. My family sometimes go to the library together, eat together sometimes, watch movies as a family, and play games together. Sometimes we fall behind on these things, but we bounce back. Thanks so much.

Making the most of each day and moment is something (as I get older) I realize the importance of...a prayer I frequently express to God...to make the most of each day...not just busy-iness but doing what He has for me to do...that will count for eternity. God bless you!

Hello Field. This Hub is very important and i believe the information within can strengthen a family. Every moment wasted is irretrievable. My son and I have dinner together every night (he is 8) and catch up on the day. I would miss many important things if we didn't have that time. We also use it to recall what we are thankful for and moments that made us happy during the day. Thank you for an inspiring reminder.

      PS-You have a beautiful family.

Hi drbj thank you for your comment. I love spending time with my sons and playing games with them. They are some of the best times of my life with great memories. If you aren't able to do it once a week, how about every two weeks? Even if it's just once a month, the memories you will make will last a lifetime. Any time spent with your children is something money just can't buy...it's priceless!

Have yourself a great day! :-)

I like the 'family night' suggestion, Carol. Now the hard part is rounding them all up. But I am determined. :)
