The relationship between a father and his child is very important. It has a direct impact in the cognitive, social and psychological areas of the child's development.

It has been shown that when dad plays a role in his baby's life, the baby is more secure. Studies have indicated that children whose fathers play a strong role in their upbringing have higher IQ's than those whose fathers are not involved in their lives. Girls whose fathers are respectful are less likely to enter into violent relationships than those who have disrespectful or absent dads.

Fathers play a critical role in their child's life. Studies have shown that children raised by angry fathers are at significant risk of antisocial behavior. Many of these children are withdrawn and have problems with anxiety.

Child development experts believe that the most critical time of a father's influence on their child is between the ages of six and fourteen. The role of a father carries immense responsibility, during this time and impacts their child heavily.

Even when a father doesn't live in the same home as his child, a positive relationship can and should be developed. For this to happen, quality time needs to be spent together. Trusting relationships are formed when the child is very young. Dads need to be creative when planning time and outings with their child.

Good communication between a father and his child is essential. Fathers need to talk to and with their child and get to know their child's interests. Sharing a hobby together provides a wonderful venue, as does playing a boardgame or sport with their child. This is very helpful in securing a strong father-child bond.

Fathers need to know that they are extremely influential in their child's life and their child's future. Time with your child is a wonderful investment. The rewards will last a lifetime.

I am so thankful my daughter and husband have such a wonderful relationship. The number of absent fathers is heartbreaking and I believe it plays a direct role in the breakdown of our society.
