Thirty Things I Learned During my Daughter's Years in College

On the occasion of my daughter’s graduation from college, I began thinking about all that I had learned while she was a college student. Here is a list of the top thirty. My college degree never prepared me for any of this.

10. By far the best way to get from LA to Boston is on Jet Blue

11. What a “big” and “little” are (sorority stuff)

12. That social media is so important it’s taught as an upper division course

13. The higher the heel, the better

14. The shorter the skirt, the better

15. The longer the hair, the better

16. How to let go of your child when she leaves for college

17. How to welcome your child back home and attempt to treat her like an adult

18. How to let go of your child again – I mean your adult

19. How clean a house can be

20. How expensive it is to go to college in a city

21. How expensive it is to go to college

22. How expensive it is, all of it

23. How enriching and exciting a semester abroad can be (see #22)

      It is definitely a journey going from being a mom of children and then releasing them into the world, watching the evolution of children becoming young adults, and then realizing that you gave birth to your own best friends.
