I don't know if this is a classic parenting experience but it came to mind so I'll share. We had Christmas, I guess it was two years ago. I'll come right out and say it, I was about finished financially, things are much better now thanks very much, anyway: All I could afford was a new warm jacket and a big fat chocolate bar for each child. I felt so ashamed but I had a little Charie Brown tree and the two small presents. On Christmas morning they were so happy to get those presents and we had such a great day hiking and playing around. That night after they went to sleep I broke down and cried, not a thing I do often, and thought those kids with child's joy and pure loving hearts are much wiser in how they live than I. I was really glad to be a dad of two beautiful children that day.
