What has been the most difficult adjustment to being an empty nester?
For me, right now, not being able to fill my days... Actually feeling the Earth rotating while I watch the days turning into nights...
It is so quiet sometimes, ever since my son left, that the other day a chihuahua came through my living room thinking the house was empty.
He saw me and started barking until I threw a broom at him to scare him off.
That was an exciting day. Besides you now...
The most difficult empty nest adjustment at first, is getting used to the void and everything that comes with it, or everything that is also lost because of it. For instance: When the kids are gone, so is the noise, but all of a sudden there is a deafening silence.
Another thing is, I can't seem to justify "me time". It has always been about the girls, but now that they are not here, why do I feel selfish for doing things without them?
I am realizing more and more that the best way to deal with it, is to make a lifestyle adjustment. Don't live everyday waiting for the kids to come home.
