    Stay patient and don't try to force the issue too soon.  It is easy to want to potty train them so we can get out of the diaper stage and free up some of the budget.

    What I found was that they did well, then rebelled against it and didn't want to--so I waited a few weeks.  They change so rapidly, and do thru different stages in a matter of a week or two.  One day they are not ready, the next they are.

    I had girls so we bought some very fancy girlie panties with ruffles and they loved those and wanted to keep them nice.  We had accidents for sure, but I never got mad.  They were both about 2 3/4 yr. before they were trained and then I had to remind them when they were playing so they didn't forget to go.

    I agree with duffsmom: patience is key. My son started to potty train after he turned two, and it took a bit of time before he truly got it.  We bought a fun little potty and used potty training charts with stickers and small rewards for all the times he was successful. Accidents are to be expected, but after a while, they diminish.
