Encouraging sports is important to children for many good reasons. First, you encourage them to be physically fit. Being active and constantly moving around will be equivalent to their daily exercise. Second, sports teaches them team work. They have to work as a team to win. Third, sportsmanship - they learn to accept loss graciously.
