How do you feel when you think about your children "flying the coup"?
In the next few years I will be seeing my oldest son off to college or the "real world". This has given me many emotions. How about you?
I never had empty nest syndrome because I knew just like I felt, my kids were ready to leave home and I was ready to have a life with my husband. You sort of find a new found freedom when your kids leave. I miss them yes but they are successful and I have no worries. We all have to let our children grow and I think it is great to have me time now.
I had a horrible time with empty nest syndrome. I enjoyed raising them so much and it was the first time in my life I felt I knew what I was meant to do. When it ended, it struck me particularly hard - but time passed and so did the empty nest syndrome. And as Cheryl says, then you get to enjoy life with your husband and not having to worry day to day about your children's needs.
It is bittersweet - sad but also very freeing.
