Raising kids essentially relies on the character of their parents. Character is the sum total of their personality then or now, although it's true that it changes as the Soul evolves.

The rest comes from teachers, environment, peers, religion/culture which I put as one. A Government or community plays a part, but I repeat that the drive of the parent comes from the personality or character at any given moment, and is passed unto the child accordingly.

For this very reason, fostering can also be a blessing. It depends on the nature and drive of the parents. We give what we have, and cannot give what we do not have. Peace.

I am experiencing this right now, at this point in my life. I am raising a 4 yr. old after raising 3 of his siblings to adulthood. Although all of my children have grown up to be good people who contribute to society, I always felt that I made a lot of mistakes when they were growing up. I have a second chance with this child and I am doing things differently. I made the decision not to use spanking as discipline, I try to use my natural resources responsibly and I am trying to teach my child to take responsibility before he reaches his teenage years. Those are always the challenging times.

Yes. That's excellent but happening because you are in a different space, bmg. We are always learning. No blame here. Nice approach

I'm glad to hear that you and I  are on the same path. I wrote a post on my  blog outlining the changes I am making and how they have worked so far.  Read it here: http://www.amazingmotherhood.com/2015/0 … e-methods/
