Easy Cocktails - Make Pink Panthers and other Tequila Drinks

Updated on August 26, 2014

The Tequila Special

Tequila. The worst enemy/best friend of many a party goer. It'll boost your night and make it awesome, or it'll make you violently ill. Whether or not you can handle it in shot form, the world of mixed drinks and cocktail recipes wouldn't be the same without Tequila.

Whatever side of the spectrum you find yourself on when deciding if you like it or not, you may not know that Tequila cocktails rarely taste as you'd expect, and in a good way too, try these for taste.

Tequila Sunrise

Probably the best known Tequila based cocktail out there, and rare for having a name that goes with how it looks, the grenadine creates a "Sunrise" effect that makes it easily recognizable.

Required Ingredients;

  • Tequila
  • Orange Juice
  • Grenadine
  • Ice

Fill a Boston Glass with Ice and add the following ingredients.

  1. 3 Parts Tequila
  2. 5 Parts Orange Juice

Attach your shaker firmly and give 3 good shakes.

Strain the mix into a Highball Glass with Ice.

Add a dash of Grenadine, this should settle at the bottom and give the cocktail a "sunrise" appearance

Serve with a straw

The classic purportedly named after actress Rita Hayworth (whose real name was Margarita), it isn't unlikely that the tradition of downing shots of tequila with salt and lemon or lime could come from this cocktail.

Required Ingredients;

  • Tequila
  • Cointreau
  • Lemon Juice or Lime Juice
  • Ice

Fill a Boston Glass with Ice and add the ingredients as follows,

  1. 4 Parts Tequila
  2. 2 Parts Cointreau
  3. 2 Parts Lemon or Lime Juice

Shake well

Strain into a salt rimmed Margarita glass with crushed Ice, and serve with a wedge of Lime and a straw

Pink Panther

This one of those drinks that should never work, but it is one of the nicest tequila cocktails I've had yet.

Required Ingredients;

  • Tequila
  • Grenadine
  • Milk

Fill a Boston Glass with Ice and add the ingredients as follows,

  1. 4 Parts Tequila
  2. 1 Part Grenadine
  3. 8 Parts Milk

Attach your shaker to the Boston Glass and shake well.

Strain the contents into a Highball Glass with Ice

Serve with a straw.

Each mix is designed to make one cocktail, though it can make as many as you want really, just bear in mind that when there are 12 parts in one mix, and only 6 in another they are both designed fill a glass the same way. If this isn't described well or clear enough I'll gladly answer any questions.

So that's a small portion of Tequila's contribution to the world of mixed drinks, I promise you'll be surprised by how good they are if you turn your nose away from Tequila in shot form, you can never tell by looking with cocktails, you just have to try 'em! Ta!
