Gluten Free Pasta Sauce with Meat Recipe

Updated on February 24, 2013

Spahgetti Sauce of the Past

I remember the days when I used to open a jar of delicious Spaghetti Sauce, heat it up and call it good! When I felt really chef like, I would get a seasoning packet and add meat and a little garlic powder. Pretty impressive right? Those days were over once we discovered my son was intolerant to Gluten. Gluten is a protein used as a preservative in all the jars and packets.

Back to the Classic Recipes

I tried many different recipes found on cooking websites but none were quite right. Then I dug out the home recipes I had in the back of the drawer and viola! I kept trying to give the sauce a modern twist but really, nothing beats the classics!

Ingredients

2 tbls extra-virgin olive oil

1 medium onion, diced

1 large carrot, diced

1 large celery stalk, diced

1 pound ground turkey

3 cloves garlic

2 tsp oregano

2 tsp basil

½ tsp black pepper

½ tsp sea salt

1 tsp garlic powder

40 oz crushed tomatoes

15 oz tomato sauce

Directions

Heat oil in a large pot, Add onion, carrot, and celery. Cook veggies until softened, about 5 min

Add garlic, seasonings, and ground turkey. Cook until meat is browned

Add crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, cook on low for 20 min

Serve over your favorite GF pasta!

Thank you LauraGT! Let me know what you think. ;)

Teaches12345, I started using Ground Turkey for everything and the only difference I noticed is that it's less greasy and doesn't shrink as much. Two pounds is actually two pounds. Thank you for the comment!

I started substituting turkey for ground beef to reduce the fat intake. The flavor is still good. Your sauce ingredients would enhance the flavor even more. Thanks for posting this healthy, allergy safe recipe for those who need the gluten-free dish.
