Ground Beef Burgers at Home
A Classic Cheeseburger
The Classic Cheeseburger
The classic Cheeseburger is constructed with a bun, a burger and a slice of cheese. What the individual adds beyond that point is up to personal preference.
My burger contained some pickled jalapeno slices. My hubby had a slice of raw Vidalia onion, some sliced pickles and ketchup
Forming the Patty
It's like forming clay. You start with a ball, then flatten. The burger will cook and reduce in size. There is no set rule. But, mostly trial and error. Ground beef comes in different mixtures. My favorite is an 80/20 mix. If you have 80/20 there is a little shrinkage, but not a major amount. 80 being the actual meat, and the 20 being the fat content. If you treat 70/30 like 80/20 when forming your patties, you will end up with a tiny Patty.
In comparison to venison burger, which is generally a leaner cut, the burger doesn't shrink much but the meat is much drier.
