Cook Time
Ingredients to prepare Channa masala:
- Refined oil
- 2 cloves
- 2 cinnamon stick
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 cardamoms
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 big onions (finely chopped)
- ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon Ginger-Garlic paste
- 2 Tomato (finely chopped)
- 2 green chillies or red chillies (chopped)
- 2-3 table spoon channa masala powder (you can get Channa masala powder by clicking the Buy now option)
- 2 cup or 200 grams chickpea (soaked over night or 7-8 hours, then boiled)
- 1 tablespoon Salt (add extra if needed)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Coriander leaves (chopped, for garnishing)
- Water
Instead of channa masala powder (combination of below ingredients can be used):
- 1 ½ teaspoon Red chili powder
- 1 table spoon Coriander or Dhania powder
- ¼ teaspoon Turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon Garam masala powder
- ¼ teaspoon cumin powder
- ¼ teaspoon fried mango powder (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon pomegranate powder (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the chickpea in pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles until they are soft. Drain and set aside the cooked chickpea.
- Take ½ cup of boiled chickpea and grind to smooth paste.
- Heat the 2 tablespoon of oil in a pan and add cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, cardamoms and cumin seeds. When the seeds crackle, add the onion and fry till they become golden brown.
- When the onions turned golden brown add ginger-garlic paste and saute for few minutes.
- Now add chopped tomatoes in the pan and cook till the tomatoes are completely smashed. When you find the tomatoes are nicely cooked you can find the oil oozing out from the ingredients.
- Now add turmeric powder, chopped green chilies, channa masala powder, salt and saute well.
- After sauteing for a minute or so, put the boiled chickpea inside the pan and mix with the ingredients.
- Pour required quantity of water inside the pan. Allow them to cook for 5 minutes.
- Now add ground chickpea paste in side the pan and mix well.
- When you find the channa masala or chickpea masala is done, switch off the flame and add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.
- Channa masala or chickpea masala is ready to serve. Serve hot with Bhatura, poori, chapati or any Indian bread.
