How to make the perfect Rocky Road - An easy chocolate rocky road recipe for kids

Updated on February 7, 2013

Why try this recipe?

This is the simplest recipe for a great Rocky Road treat. It is a great recipe to make with children or for a children's party (or just for a naught adult treat). Its not healthy, its majorly calorific I should think, but sometimes we all want a little treat.

Its cheap and easy and can be made to your taste just by adding or changing a few of the extra ingredients.

Totally yummy and moorish, it won't last long!

Cook Time/Set time

Prep time: 15 min
Cook time: 4 hours
Ready in: 4 hours 15 min
Yields: Enough for lots to snack on!

Ingredients

  • 100g Butter
  • 400g Milk Chocolate, Broken into chunks
  • 1 bag Mini Marshmallows
  • 100g Raisins
  • 100g Biscuits, Roughly broken

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter - this can either be done over boiling water or on a low heat in a microwave. I find 1 minute on the lowest setting will be enough
  2. Separately melt the chocolate pieces - again this can be done over hot water or in the microwave on a low hear. I find it easiest to heat for 30 seconds at a time on the lowest microwave setting, making sure to stir it in between each time.
  3. Combine the melted butter and chocolate, mixing well. Add all the other ingredients and mix together
  4. Pour the whole mixture into a shallow baking tin or cake tin and place on a shelf in your fridge to set for a few hours.
  5. When set, remove from fridge and slice into cubes with a sharp knife.
  6. Enjoy!

Alternatives

There is literally no end of things you can add to this basic rocky road recipe to make lots of different fun combinations. Try adding any of the items below:
  • White chocolate
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Sprinkles
  • Chopped Cherries
  • Fudge Chunks
  • Dried Fruit
  • Chopped Nuts
  • Sweets
  • And anything else you fancy trying

Thank you for this recipe! It's sounds fast and delicious. I bet the raisins add sweetness, and I like the idea of adding chopped nuts.

I think I'll go with the dark chocolate. The darker the better. :)

Definitely simple to make and just as popular I would imagine!! Never heard of this, but it is something I certainly wouldn't be against trying ... especially with a few of your alternative suggestions.

I love this treat and I'm sure I'll love the recipe. Thanks for this. I'm still shaking my head over the fact that you haven't written a fashion hub....probably the premier source of information on fashion and you don't write about it. In the same vein, I rarely write about education and yet I taught school for eighteen years. Go figure! LOL

@Billybuc, yeah I suppose as its something I do most of the time, I actually actively stay away from it on here, weird!
