The Final View

Note

Please ignore this dish if you are on diet to reduce your weight ;)

I would like to caution that this dish would be really hot & spicy though, would not be suitable for everyone, be warned. Check until the end of the page to find a way to make less spicy prawn curry

About the Recipe

This is one of our family’s guarded secret recipes. Hope you would enjoy this.

By following the procedures below, you could prepare the below mouth watering recipe in less than 45 minutes.

Time

Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 20 min
Ready in: 30 min
Yields: Serves 3

Spicy Asian Style Prawn Curry Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 Tablesppons Oil, Coconut Oil or Vegetable Oil. I would recommend Coconut Oil
  • ¼ teaspoon Cinnamon, Crushed
  • 5 Cardamoms, Crushed
  • ¼ kg Prawns, Shells removed & Cleaned
  • 150 g Onions, Chopped
  • 4 Green chilies, dice the chilly horizontally and then cut it into 2 cm portions
  • 10 Curry Leaves
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Chili powder ( with mixed masala), to taste
  • Secret Masala - 3/4 teaspoon Cinnamon, 5 cardamoms- remove the outer layer, 3 cloves, all of them well grinded and mixed
  • Coconut Milk, 300 ml
  • 50 grams Fennel seeds, Grinded

Preparation

Heat the pan

Add oil

Leave it for a minute and add ¼ teaspoon of crushed cinnamon, 5 crushed cardamoms and stir fry for a minute.

Next add onions, green chilies, curry leaves and stir fry until the onions turn into golden color.

Now add prawns, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 pinch of salt, 2 tablespoons Chili powder, the secret masala and stir fry for 2 minutes. Be careful and don’t break the prawns.

Now add ½ cup of coconut milk and stir the contents. Close the pan and let the contents boil in gentle heat for 5 minutes.

You are supposed to smell the spicy aroma by the end of 5 minutes. Open the pan and add another ½ cup of coconut milk, ½ teaspoon of salt. Stir the contents and taste.

If everything is to your content, let it be. If not and if you need it spicier – add chili powder. Try to find the taste at this stage so that you could easily add anything extra if needed, let it be salt or chilly powder.

Close the pan and let the contents heat in gentle heat for 3 to 5 minutes.

Now, open the pan and you would find the contents gaining a creamy consistency. If not, stir it gently for 2 more minutes.

When you gain the thick creamy consistency, add the grounded fennel seeds and stir it for less than 30 seconds and done!!

How to Serve

You can serve this dish with Rice and it would be absolutely fantastic. Or, you could serve it with Rottis, Chappatis, Sandwich Bread.

Less Spicy Version

For Less Spicy version: You can avoid green chilies and cloves

Advice

As mentioned earlier, this dish is not suitable for those who are on diet to reduce weight. For those who are on diet, I would suggest reducing the quantity of oil, coconut milk.

As you can see from the ingredients, this dish could increase the overall body heat ( Ex – Cloves, Cinnamon) but don’t worry as we are adding the fennel seeds to balance it.
