Luxury Mouth-watering Hungarian Coffee Cake Recipe

Yields: Serves 8 in 8 slices


  • 125g Sugar
  • 180g Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Essence
  • 275g Plain flour
  • 150ml Sour cream
  • 2 Tsp Baking powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Bicarbonate of soda
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 100g Sugar
  • 2 Tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 100g Walnuts or Pecan nuts diced

How to Make the Luxurious Hungarian Coffee Cake

  1. To make the cake, beat the sugar, butter and vanilla essence together until mousse-like then 1 by 1 beat the eggs in and then beat in the sour cream.
  2. Sift the flour, bicarbonate of soda and the salt together, then put the butter in and beat it all together.
  3. For the inner filling, mix the cinnamon, sugar and the nuts together with a fork. Put one 3rd of the mixture into the cake tin cover with filling then repeat two more times ending with the filling.
  4. Bake the cake in an oven preheated to 180c gas mark 4 for 50 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from the cooker oven and rest it for 5 minutes then gently turn from the tin and allow it to cool on a cake rack.
