Margaritaville G1000 Portable Tailgate Grill

The Ultimate Tailgating Grill

So there you are in the RV field across from Richmond International Raceway in your truck or SUV ready to fire up your tailgating grill. Let's face it, parking is a bear at the track and the ticket prices higher than the chances of Dale Jr. finishing in the Top 5. Everybody is pulling out there small hibachi grills or lugging out the big charcoal grill. You head to the back of your truck, unhook a latch and swing your tailgating grill out. Thread on the propane tank and you are ready to fire her up and begin boiling Brats in beer.

Tailgating Grill with Rugged Construction

The Margaritaville G1000 Ride-Behind Tailgating Grill is a well constructed portable gas tailgating grill. The hood is made from sturdy cast aluminum and the surfaces of the grill are powder coated for durability under any conditions. There is a drip tray that clips underneath the unit to catch grease preventing it from making a mess on the ground. The cooking surface of the Margaritaville G1000 portable tailgating grill is a whopping 352-square inches. That's enough cooking space for up to 20 hamburgers at a time!

Porcelain Coated Steel Grate

The cooking grate is a porcelain coated steel grate. This makes for quick clean ups between grilling. Simply allow the grate to cool and wipe it down with paper towels. There really shouldn't be any need for heavy scrubbing. If it is necessary, wash the grate in warm soapy water with a soft cloth and dry it thoroughly.

Tailgating Grill withTwo Side Tables

Now one thing I don't like is stressing over where to put stuff while I am grilling. It is just a pain trying to figure out where to place that plate of cooked burgers so they're out of the way. This tailgating grill comes with TWO fold out side tables that are sturdy enough to hold platters of food as well as your beer if necessary. Talk about convenience.

Now every “grill master” has their own special sauces and rubs. You need a place for them too. The Margaritaville G1000 Ride-Behind Tailgating Grill comes with a fold down condiment tray perfect for storing your secret ingredients.

Tailgating Grill withTool Hooks

Although this tailgating grill has two fold down tables, you don't want to clutter them with your grilling utensils. There is also convenient tool hooks on this unit for hanging your spatula, brushes and tongs all within easy reach.

The Lid Stays On This Tailgating Grill

One major inconvenience with most portable grills is having to take the lid off and on during cooking. Finding a spot for the lid so it won't get dirty, or at least so the wife doesn't see it on the ground and ask you if you plan on putting it back on the grill.

No worries about that with the Margaritaville G1000 Ride-Behind Tailgating Grill. The lid flips back and stays just like a full size patio grill. Not only that, but the lid also has a built in thermometer so you can keep an eye on the cooking temperature.

TailGate Hookup

The Margaritaville G1000 review would not be complete without mentioning it's unique travel ability. The Margaritaville G1000 comes with a swing out travel arm that is suitable for mounting on any size vehicle with a 2-inch hitch receiver. The arm is well constructed just like the grill itself. It is made from a heavy-duty steel and holds everything secure as you travel down the highway.

The travel arm keeps the grill away from the vehicle during travel. When it is time to set up, the arm extends out enough to keep the grill away from the vehicle yet without extending past your parking space. It locks securely in place either for grilling or travel.

Cold Weather? No Problem.

Football games are notorious for cold weather grilling. Face it, some portable gas grills are only suited for fair weather. Not the Matgaritaville G1000. This tailgating grill delivers 20,000 BTUs using a 1-lb propane tank. You can also purchase a Cuisinart 4-Foot LP Adaptor Hose to attach the grill to a standard propane grill tank. This portable gas grill heats up to 350-degrees in temperatures hovering 35-degrees in under 10 minutes. It'll reach 500-degrees quickly which is enough to cook just about anything you like.

This Tailgating Grill Has Legs

Now although this grill is great for tailgating, what about those times you are camping and the truck is parked a little ways from the site? Simply unhook your Margaritaville G1000 Ride-Behind Tailgating Grill from the travel arm, fold the legs out and you have a heck of a table top grill! Great for small grilling at home as well.

Easy To Assemble

Just like any other grill, the Margaritaville G1000 does require some assembly out of the box. However, it is pretty simple to put everything together even without the easy to read directions. The unit assembles within about 30 minutes.

It's Customizable Too!!

The handle and end caps of the Margaritaville G1000 come in lime green. The cool thing is that you can paint these in your favorite team colors.

Some Downsides

Not everything is great about the Margaritaville G1000 review. First, the propane tank is NOT included. Not really a big deal, however it would be nice if it were included. You can find the tanks in hardware stores, home improvement centers and Wal-Mart.

When the grill is on the travel arm, there is no way to level the grill. Park on a level surface if you grill while it is attached to the arm. Usually this is not a problem, but it is something to be aware of.

The lock that comes with the grill is a cheap plastic combination lock. You are probably better off purchasing a separate bicycle lock for securing it to the arm to prevent theft.

Final Verdict

All in all the Margaritaville G1000 Ride-Behind Tailgating Grill is the gourmet grill of tailgating parties. You are sure to get comments and fans each time you pull up and swing your grill around for cooking. We give the grill 4 out of 5 stars in our Margaritaville G1000 review. Less mess. Less hassle. Great grilling. Isn't that what tailgate parties are all about?
