Margaritaville Grill Customizing
When it it comes to portable tailgating grills, few can match the convenience and grilling area of the Margaritaville grill. This grill boasts over 350-square inches of grilling space with a heat output of 20,000 BTU's. However, as nice as the Margaritaville grill it is a bit of an eyesore. Let's be real for just a moment. Lime green is not exactly the color you have in mind to be sporting on the back of your SUV. There is hope though as it is possible to paint the parts that are lime green. Maybe you want your favorite football team colors or the colors of your favorite NASCAR driver. Either way, you can eliminate the green and customize the Margaritaville grill to a more pleasing color.
Materials:
Adhesive remover (GooGone)
Soft cloths
Masking tape
Spray paint
Newspaper or drop cloth
Phillips-head screwdriver
Towel
Step 1
Apply an adhesive remover such as GooGone to a soft cloth. Rub the adhesive remover over the palm tree decals on the swing arm. Remove the palm tree decal and wipe the swing arm dry with a soft dry cloth.
Step 2
Unhook the Margaritaville grill from the swing arm. Disconnect the swing arm from the hitch on the back of your vehicle and place it over spread out newspaper. Tape around the caps of the swing arm with masking tape, so when you paint the caps you will not get the paint on the swing arm.
Step 3
Paint the caps evenly with a spray paint color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry completely before removing the masking tape from the arm. Lay some more newspaper or a drop cloth down on a flat surface to place the remaining pieces you wish to paint.
Step 4
Open the Margaritaville grill lid. Find the four screws securing the grill handle to the lid. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver and pull the handle off the grill lid. Remove the two screws securing the heat shield to the back of the handle. Place the handle and heat shield on the newspaper or drop cloth.
Step 5
Close the grill lid and engage the lid lock. Place a towel on a flat surface and turn the grill upside over the towel with the bottom facing you. Look for the screws securing the side panels to the grill. There are three screws on each side. Remove the screws with the Phillips-head screwdriver and remove the side panels. Set them on the drop cloth with the handle and heat shield.
Step 6
Paint the pieces to a color or colors of your choice with spray paint. Allow them to dry completely and paint all sides of each piece. While the pieces are drying, tape the swing arm caps with masking tape and spray paint the swing arm to a color of your choosing.
Step 7
Once all pieces are dry, reassemble the Margaritaville grill in the revers order of disassembly. You can also pop out the center emblem on the handle and paint it a separate color or even add a team emblem. Now your Margaritaville grill is customized. Get out to the stadium or track and start tailgate grilling.
