This past weekend I was given the opportunity to try something new. Popchips Tortilla chips, the newest addition to the original Popchips. There were 4 flavor choices. Nacho Cheese, Ranch, Chili Limon and Salsa. I took a bag of Chili Limon. These are my first impressions:

They had a nice scent, strong enough to entice me but not so strong that they turned me away as some of the other tortilla chips do.

They were crisp and fresh, both in texture and flavor. They were easily recognizable as a Popchip product with a slight twist. They are shaped like tortilla chips! Not having any major expectations,I was still pleasantly surprised.

A tasty Gluten Free/Vegan Snack

I love that these are gluten free and vegan for several reasons:

  • They are literally bursting with flavor which is a plus for any snack.
  • They do not have the dry "cardboard" texture that is consistent with many fat-free snacks.
  • They are convenient. When following a more restrictive diet, it isn't always easy to find "convenience" foods.
  • They are affordable! They are priced the same as an ordinary bag of chips.
  • For young children, they "fit" in with what everyone else is eating.

Popchips Vs. The 3 Leading brands of Tortilla Chips

I decided that I can brag about how great Popchips taste and how healthy they are for me but I didn't honestly know how they stacked up to the other brands. I took a trip to the grocery store and was pleased to see that Popchip delivers what they promise. I looked at two major brands and one store brand. The nutritional contents were the same on all three. Here are the results

The group consensus on Popchips.

These were introduced at a conference of 600 people. I sat down at a table with 5 other people. We all had our bags of Popchips. As engrossed in the conversation as everyone was, they still managed to greedily consume their chips. There were exclamations of surprise as each one tried their individual choices. I looked around the room at the hundreds of people tasting their snacks. I noticed more than one person glancing at the information on their bags in disbelief. We are so programmed to expect that low-calorie, fat-free foods will not be as tasty as their higher calorie and fat content counterparts, that it was difficult to belief that something so flavorful and fun could also be good for us! Popchips have already proven themselves in this catagory with their 10 flavors of original chips. They have been known as a viable, healthy snack alternative. I can only say that these new additions have them bursting back into the market in a bold and flavorful way!You might want to check out their website for more fresh ideas!

No guilty secret

I am thankful for the opportunity Popchips gave me to taste these chips. I don't know if I would have purchased them otherwise. Now I can say that I definitely will buy Popchips as a healthier alternative for this girl, who is a sucker for salty, savory snacks. I can also say that they did not disappoint. In fact, the light, crispy texture and the bold, fresh flavor awakened my senses to a new favorite snack. I highly recommend them!
