Classic Poppy Seed Cake
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup poppy seeds
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 4 eggs white
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup butter
Instructions
- Soak seeds in milk 5 to 6 hours. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add seeds and blend well
- Add sifted flour and baking powder alternately with milk
- Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites and vanilla
- Pour into 3 greased and floured cake pans and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until done
- Spread desired filling between layers and frosting on top and sides of a cave
