Tastes Like Chicken

There are many foods that taste like chicken. When queried about what something unusual tastes like, there are descriptions of what it is similar to. There are three familiar flavors to compare to:

  • tastes like beef roast
  • tastes like white chicken - light and flavorful like breast meat
  • tastes like dark chicken - more muscle tissue from legs and wings
  • tastes like fish
  • tastes like fishy chicken
  • tastes like liver - a heavy blood flavor

Textures

Many foods that are unusual and deep fried, do well with a flour, egg and cracker crumb coating. Some foods, like gizzards or turtle, require a boiling before they are deep fried or pickled, to tenderize them.

Some foods do not need a batter, and some do. When making pickled vegetables, most of the time, you will prepare a brine, prepare a jarful of raw vegetables, and pour the hot brine over the raw vegetables and seal the jar. The process is very simple. The vegetables retain a partial amount of their original crispness, yet are tender enough to bite. The mushrooms retain a certain amount of firmness, but shrink when boiled.

Turtle, depending on what section of the turtle you eat, tastes different. One part may taste like beef, one part may taste like chicken. Alligator is good deep fried with a Fry Magic batter.

We recently had a venison heart, deep fried. It was pulled from the deer, washed, sliced and flour, egg and cracker crumbed. Deep fried for 4 minutes. It was a firm, dark chicken flavor.
