Absolute Beginner's Cookbook, or How Long Do I Cook a 3 Minute Egg?
When I moved into my first place as a teen I stole this book from my mom (turns out she needed it more than me). To this day I still have this ratty, stained book on my bookshelf. My kids still use it to make stuff so easy I forgot it wasn't common knowledge. My mom was a huge fan of spud flakes (if you don't know what those are then you mom must have cared about what you ate)...so I left home without the slightest idea on how to cook a real potato, this book saved my taste buds from a lifetime of blah!
The idea is simple...Can you find the kitchen? Can you identify the stove & refrigerator? Can you operate a can opener? Then you can in fact use this cookbook to make food...actual, edible food. It has everything from mashed potatoes & boiled eggs to burgers & pot roast. It even tells you how long to cook a 3 minute egg...no really it does. In the back it even has a list of stuff you would need in the kitchen & explains what they are for in easy to follow language, they even use brand names & explain how to deal with Teflon.
This book unlike most cookbooks, it caters to people who just want to eat decent food. You won't find any ridiculously long involved dinner productions in this book, it's truly for beginners. It's written for people with regular kitchens & normal utensils the perfect cookbook for busy moms, college kids or even that guy that can't make Kool-aid without burning it.
