There's The Italian, New York or Chicago "Right" Way... And Then There's The Real-Life Friday-Night-In-A-Hurry Way!

Do you LOVE pizza? You're craving it, you need it, you want it... and you only have an hour before you have to be somewhere. You might really know how to do it yourself the "right way" -making your own sauce that takes hours, kneading your own homemade pizza dough... but there's that time issue again. It's ok to cheat. I'm saying it right here. So let's cheat, and make some pizza with simple ingredients you can pick up on the way home in 5 minutes.

All you need is a pizza pan to bake it on (oh, they do sell those disposable ones at the store...) and about 10 minutes, and you can have fresh hot pizza baking in the oven! Here's my son John getting ready to chow on his pizza creation. By the way - if you have kids, they love to make their own pizzas! Whether they're six... or 26, like my boy!

Get The Ingredients I Use... - Or Pick Your Favorites!

In the photo, the pizza being cut is Canadian Bacon, Pepperoni and Cheese. The background pizza ready to go into the oven is Canadian Bacon, Pepperoni, Pineapple, Green/Red Peppers and Onion. You will need dough, sauce, and toppings. Here are our favorites. My son will only eat meat and cheese so he gets his own pizza. My husband, daughter and I are a bit more adventurous so we add on some of the optional ingredients on ours. Here we go...

Two ready-made pizza crusts sold in the refrigerated department

One large can of prepared pizza sauce

2 bags shredded mozzarella cheese

That is the most basic cheese pizza. You'll want to put the desired amount of sauce on each crust after placing it on a pizza pan lightly sprayed or brushed with olive oil. Add cheese and a sprinkle of salt, bake at 425 for about 10 minutes or until cheese is lightly browned and crust is golden.

Fun Extra Ingredients - Put Cheese On Top Layer

- Another type of cheese plus mozzarella. I like to use 5-Cheese Italian, Feta, and Provolone myself.

- Browned hamburger, sausage, or both, seasoned with salt

- Packaged Pepperoni slices

- Packaged Canadian Bacon slices

- Grilled Chicken Breast cut in strips

Veggies

- Sliced Black or Green Olives

- Canned Pineapple, drained

- Canned diced tomatoes, drained

- Diced Pimientos

- Frozen Chopped Bell Pepper Mix with Onions

- Fresh Cilantro

- Canned Mushrooms, drained

- Any frozen veggie blend you like, thawed and drained

PIZ-ZA! PIZ-ZA!! PIZ-ZA!!!

You Can Always Upscale When You Have The Time...

If you have time to be excellent, you can do homemade sauce and/or crust rather than storebought, use fresh chopped veggies instead of frozen or canned, etc.

Another nice touch is to sprinkle Parmesan, Romano or your favorite sprinkle cheese on top just as you take the pizza out.

The Most Important Thing

Make sure your pizza is fully done before serving. The very center should be piping hot and the cheese should be bubbling.

I bought all the ingredients for the two large pizzas shown in the photo here for less than a $20 bill.

There is no such thing as too much cheese.
