Pound cakes are are heavier, and chiffon cakes are lighter because they have beaten egg whites. A pound traditionally has a pound of each of the main ingredients (flour, butter, sugar, and eggs), but that ratio is hardly adhered to any more. A chiffon cake is simply a sponge cake with added fat.
