Some people don't like onions smell that's why fell bad taste.
Some people are "supertasters" they have more papillae on their tongue (a genetic thing). This often means they not like certain strong or bitter tasting foods.
I have a daughter-in-law who can't stand onions or black pepper-- and another one who won't even look at my delicious sauerkraut. Neither of them like anything pickled.
