How is MSG labelled in the USA?
In Europe they use E numbers, and MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) is present in anything labelled E.620 to E.629, but I do not know if America uses any coding to allow people to know when MSG is present in food purchased.
Can anyone tell me?
No, it does not. Worse, there are many forms of glutamate, and many are not labelled. To avoid glutamate, one must start by avoiding all items labeled MSG, all artificial colors, all natural and artificial flavors, all hydrolyzed protein and all yeast extract. I must avoid this, so I cook almost entirely from scratch, and I can't buy packaged foods - not even most ones in the best health food stores.
