I would go with salad, because we are already getting our carbs from the pasta and bread just means more carbs and what we should be looking for is balance, so we get a good balance by going with salad, plenty of vitamins there.
I would never serve bread with pasta. What the point of mixing flour with flour? Sometimes I make a very quick and easy salad from cherry tomatoes and spring onion. I also think that steamed peas go just perfectly with pasta.
