Green Gram Peas Curry

Green gram peas curry is an easy and tasty curry, which goes well with chapati, dosa, rice and phulka. Very healthy and protein rich side dish.

Green gram is good for heart and bone health, boosts immunity, promotes skin and hair growth.

Peas is rich in fiber and protein. Slows down the breakdown of carbohydrates and controls blood sugar level.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup green gram, soaked
  • 1/2 cup sprouted green peas
  • 2 cups water, or as required
  • salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoons ghee
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup tomato, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a vessel, soak green gram overnight or for 4-5 hours.
  2. Once well soaked, drain off.
  3. Transfer the soaked green gram to the cooker.
  4. Add sprouted green peas, water, salt, close the lid and take 2 whistles.
  5. In a frying pan, heat ghee and oil.
  6. Splutter cumin seeds, add chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, fry till onion turns translucent.
  7. Once well fried, add chopped tomato, fry till tomato turns soft.
  8. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, salt, mix and combine everything well.
  9. Add cooked green gram and peas along with water, add more water, mix well.
  10. Taste test and add salt if required. Give a mix. Close the lid and cook for 3-4 minutes.
  11. Once well cooked, add chopped coriander leaves, give a mix. Switch off the flame.
  12. Easy, tasty, healthy and protein rich curry is ready.
