I've always craved for something delightfully sweet especially on my favorite bread and toast like putting some jams in it.
Jams is a special kind of fruit preserves. It is prepared by cooking the whole fruit with sugar. The taste depends on the flavor and variety of fruit you are using.
It is popular snacks among kids and adults that boast quick energy because of it contains 48 calories per tablespoon enough to sustain the glucose needed by the body.

Basic Jam Making
Jams are so easy to make and can be long lasting when kept in a properly clean tightly sealed container and put it in high temperature to avoid spoilage.
♥ Prepare the fruit by removing any stalks and leaves, Stone the fruit. Wipe clean or rinse in cold water.
♥ Cook the fruit in little or no water to soften it and break it down. (This extracts the pectin)
♥ Add sugar and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely dissolved. (do not allow mixture to boil until sugar is dissolved)
♥ Commercially bought pectin is added at this point if necessary.
♥ Bring jam to a boil and boil rapidly without stirring until the jam has reached the setting point. (this can take from 5 to 20 minutes)
♥ Pour into warm jars, cover and label.
Pectin is the substance responsible for the process of jam and jelly making.
Halayang Ube (Purple Yam Jam Recipe)
Filipino Jam Dessert
Halayang Ube or known as Purple Yam Jam is a Filipino dessert favorite. It is made using real yam (ube) root mashed and mixed with condensed and evaporated milk.
♥1 kilo ube yam root
♥1 can (14 ounces) evaporated milk
♥2 cans (12 ounces) condensed milk
♥1/2 cup butter or margarine
♥1/2 teaspoon of vanilla (optional)
* On a pot, boil the unpeeled ube yam in water and simmer for 30 minutes. Drain and let cool.
*Peel and finely grate the ube yam.
*Heat a big wok in medium heat.
*Melt butter or margarine, add the condensed milk and vanilla flavoring. Mix well.
*Add the 1 kilo grated ube yam,
*Adjust the heat to low
*Keep on mixing the ingredients for about 30 minutes or until sticky and a bit dry (but still moist).
*Add the evaporated milk and continue to mix for another 15 minutes.
*Let cool and place on a large platter.
*Refrigerate before serving the halayang ube.

Cooking Tips:You may spread additional butter or margarine on top of the jam before serving. For the sweet toothed, sprinkle a little sugar on top of the jam after placing on the large platter. Instead of manually grating the ube, you may cut it in cubes and use a blender to powderize the ube.

Spicy Tomato Jam Recipe
Did you know that Tomatoes are once long ago considered as poisonous by the Americans. Today, far from being poisonous it is considered one of the most healthy vegetables around. And yes, I did say vegetable.
It is high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Potassium and high in Lycopene to help prevent heart disease and cancer.
Here's what you need:
1 1/2 pounds good ripe tomatoes cored and coarsely chopped
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tablespoon fresh grated or minced ginger
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon salt
1 jalapeÃ±o or other peppers, stemmed, seeded and minced, or red pepper flakes or cayenne to taste.
Combine all ingredients in a heavy medium saucepan, Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring often.
Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until mixture has consistency of thick jam, about 1 hour 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning, then cool and refrigerate until ready to use; this will keep at least a week.
