Monaghan Man to be sentenced to 25 Years in New York for Brutal Killing

Gary Mc Gurk, Son of Senior East Tyrone, Provisional IRA volunteer, Aidan Mc Gurk, who pleaded guilty to the first-degree-manslaughter of his ex-girlfriend Michele Lee, in Queens, New York on April 27th 2009, will be sentenced to 25 years in jail on the 16th of June 2010 according to a family member. Gary Mc Gurk has also pleaded guilty to tampering with physical evidence as he tried to cover up his gruesome crime.
It is believed that Gary McGurk told New York detectives that he was from Dungannon, County Tyrone, in Northern Ireland in order not to draw attention to his Father, Aidan Mc Gurk, who had been living illegally in New York for many years. However, Gary Mc Gurk has never lived in Northern Ireland; he was born in Monaghan Town and lived there until his parents took him to America in 1996.

Gary Mc Gurk’s father, Aidan lived in Mullaghmatt/Kieran Doherty Park, Monaghan Town, in the Irish Republic, during the 1980/90s and was a senior member of the East Tyrone Brigade of the Provisional IRA. In 1981 Aidan Mc Gurk was captured along with fellow IRA man James Mc Ginley, both men were waiting for a British Army patrol to pass in order to detonate an IRA landmine, however, the two IRA men fell asleep while waiting on the British patrol to pass and were captured by the Gardai (Irish Police). They became known in republican circles as the sleeping bombers.

While living in Mullaghmatt in Monaghan Town, Aidan then 32 meet with then, 17 year old Caroline, and they began a relationship. From this relationship Gary Mc Gurk was born in 1986. Gary attended the local primary school on the Clones Road in Monaghan Town, until he was 10 years old at which point his family moved to America. The reason the family moved to America was because Aidan was alleged to have been involved in the robbery of the local Cash and Carry on the North Road in Monaghan Town.

Aidan was regularly arrested and at one point faced extradition back to the north from the Irish Republic for his alleged involvement in a murder. Aidan Mc Gurk operated under the command of IRA Commander Jim Lynagh who was shot dead by the SAS in Loughgall in 1987. The other members of Mc Gurk’s gang in Monaghan were Laurence Mc Nally, Pete Ryan (both shot dead by the SAS in 1991), John ‘Dinger’ Bell, Colm Lynagh, Vincent Mac Anespie, Seamus Shannon, John Joe Coyle, Seamus Mc Elwain (shot dead by SAS 1986), Barry Kerr, all of whom operated under the supreme Command of Kevin Mc Kenna.

Gary Mc Gurk was studying to be a forensic investigator in Queens. He has pleaded guilty to the first-degree-manslaughter of his girlfriend, whom police say was stabbed in the throat, beaten in the head, bound with cell phone charger cord and seared on the chest with a steam iron. The victim was found by her room mate, she was naked, tied to the bed with burn marks on her body. Gary Mc Gurk will be sentenced to 25 years on the 16th of June 2010, according to a family member, had he not pleaded guilty the sentence would have been longer and without parole.

I wouldn't call it manslaughter but at least he got 25 years in jail which many get for murder.

So the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree? Is this the lesson to be learned here?

Gary's father was a career criminal and Gary had homicidal tendencies. I'm assuming his father is now on the run since he's here illegally and he'd probably prefer not to be deported back to Ireland where he'll be jailed.

The story itself is tragic. An innocent girl is murdered by the spawn of an illegal alien.
