how good a dentist is?

   People assume that the more the dentist charges, the better the dentist is. Is there any thing true?

      How good a dentist is has nothing to do with how much he charges. My dentist is middle of the range cost wise and top of the heap clinically.
      My feeling is ..that it is all about perception.
      The classic example is a haircut for men.Seriously ..how many ways can a mans hair be cut yet ..prices range enormously. It s more about image than practicalities.

   No! I would put no faith in that assumption.
   
   However, the person's age might play a factor on where or who you see, and it should be. Some should not be still practicing.

      I don't think that age plays any role. Some dentists will say that you need a deep cleaning because they can charge you more for that than for a standard cleaning.

   God I hope that's not the case lol
   
   I have an appointment to start having mine worked on but because I have no coverage I am having to go to an office that charges on a sliding scale so I hope that because the services are cheaper and sometimes free that the work isn't slack as well.

   I wouldn't think that is true. There are lot of factors to consider over and above what a dentist charges. Cagsils comment may be true to some extent, but with age comes experience and wisdom, both of which cannot be taught.
   
   All dentists have to study very hard and don't get a license unless they pass very difficult exams, so I wouldn't think that money is relevant. As with all businesses I'd think that it depends on you clientele as well as your experience. I'm sure celebrities pay way too much when they go visit their dentist.

   Of course they are related. The more educated a dentist is, the more he spent on that education. The more dental technology a dentist buys for his private practice to serve his patients, the more he expects to earn for its use. High end dental care demands a higher fee than low end dental care. You always get what you pay for...high or low. Just think about Nordstroms and K-Mart....same cost of good or different?  Same quality or diffent?  There are clothes and dentists for every niche of society. The best dentists always cost more for the same reason.

   yesterday i asked one of the dentists in dental college about this, he smiled and answered: 'why do patients feel we charge too much money? If they come to us before anything starts to hurt, they may never need expensive treatments'.

   I needed to see a dentist about a broken tooth.
   
   The first one was 20-something, charged $134 for a TEMPORARY filling and made me cry she was so rough.
   
   I shopped around, found a nice 50-something dentist who was nice, helped me work through my fears and charged me $125 for a permanent filling.

   All else being equal, a dentist with many years of experience will do a better job, or at least know how to deal with a difficult problem.  They also have to keep up with new techniques and materials...learning doesn't stop after dental college.  Anyway, the most expensive tools available won't make for a better dental surgeon.
   
   In some jurisdictions, such as here in the Canadian province of Ontario, the fees charged are set by the provincial Dental Association.  Everyone pays the same for the same dental work.
   
   Finding a really competant dentist takes a bit of digging.  Ask friends, colleagues, etc.  You'll have to weigh their answers carefully though, since most people don't really know how well their teeth are being managed unless it hurts for some time after treatment, or becomes infected.  
   
   For most people, it also comes down to a personal interaction with the dentist.  Some dentists are better at the (important) personal aspect than others.

   As the people says that greater the sugar added to dish, more it will be sweet. My dear I agree with you, dentist work is always depend upon skills, technique and knowledge and all these things progresses with experience which ultimately takes time. After graduation, dentist has to struggle a lot to acquire these skills and when it is acquired naturally he will charge more...
