I've got several blogs and the frequency I update them vary. Some I do once a week, others every other day.
I don't think it matters how often you update them. HOWEVER, each article, or post you write, should always be written with the goal of ranking for keywords your after and making money from it.
At least if your intent is to make money off your blogs, which mine always are. My tourist site/blog is getting big and frankly I have so much to write about I'm thinking of making a post every day.
Some have told me that I should stick to every other day and post-date the articles so I have many all set to post and then I can work on other things.
However, that mindset is thinking that the post are just filler, stuff to fill the site with and keep it updated.
If each post is written as another SEO'ed page to get traffic and make money, then does it not make sense to make them as often as you can, if you can?
Look at it this way: if you could push a button and make one million articles, all making just a buck a day, you would do that right now, instead of post-dating them, right?
So the more content you have out there, as long as it's been done right to get traffic and clicks, the more you make.
Therefor, does it not make sense to kick out daily blog post if time allows so your making more money, more quickly than if you held back???
What is the response rate on your blogs? Do you get relevant comments to your postings? Do you directly ask your readers what type of content and how often they want it?
These are all elements that will help create loyal readers. Loyal readers are not necessarily buyers but they do bookmark and share to people that are buying.
What elements have you included to make your sites interactive?
I don't get many comments. Since my main blog is an Orlando theme park tourist type, I write tips on how to save money and time in the parks.
Right now I'm writing about all the Holiday events going on, what to see and do and so on. I always rank pretty good with each post.
Each time I write one I get a few more SE hits per day and so on. I also plan on adding a forum too.
If the reason is "daily" activity, the recommendation that Wrylilt made for adding a news capsule might keep the content fresh.
Thoughts, suggestions?
Do some Hubbers back off and not post for a while and still keep traffic pouring in simply from the ever green Hub and from the news feed?
I'm talking about your own blogs and/or websites.
Try asking your readers for their tips and feedback on their vacation. Adding a forum can be good if you have more than a 100 daily visits to your blog. If not then its just more work with less benefit because then you have to moderate. I think the best responses is right there in your comments but you really should do something to solicit the comments. Like a salesperson has to ask for the sale, a blogger has to ask for feedback.
Good idea. I admit I post articles that just state the facts without really asking much from the readers. I'm up to around 1K in unique traffic daily for that site, so a forum might work now.
But again with my original question. If each post gives me more traffic from the SE's, why not make daily post? I'm sure any long time readers are not going to dislike more post, right?
If you're getting that kind of traffic then give it a try with daily posts but try to incorporate the reader and ask for feedback.
As for the forum, I guess that depends on your goals and income stream from the blog itself. Will directing traffic to the forum take away potential ad clicks... I think it will.
Oh the forum will be packed with adsense ads, trust me. In fact I hope to make a lot off the ads in the forum. Plus I can put sponsor ads in there and even sell ad spots on the forum.
I blog nearly dailly on my two highest traffic blogs, and my blog with a direct advertiser, because the effort pays off. I don't try and push blogs uphill if I am not getting readership and/or income as a result. Some blog topics just don't fill a niche and won't take off no matter what you do.
Thanks for the advice. Yes of course, if you make a blog about a niche and it never seems to take off you should not spend your time on it.
I've closed a lot of sites because it just was not doing me any good. Sometimes you have to take a leap, and sometimes you land in the water!
I was only making a post once every 3 days on my site, and when I went to every other day my traffic picked up.
However I think that is simply because I now have more articles out there that is getting picked up by the SE, which in turn gives you more SE traffic.
Which brings me back to my OQ. That is, you get more traffic from more content out there, not really because your readers like your more frequent updates.
That's my take on it anyways.
I dunno.
You can overhelm regulars by posting too much in a day.
I saw that right here today. I have liked what ilmdamaily writes, so I followed, but today he posted eight hubs.. turned me off, so I only read two.
But regulars don't click ads, people say. True, but in my case, I have other things that regulars WILL buy once they develop enough trust, so I do not want to turn them off in any way.
Yeah that makes sense too. But one post a day is not overdoing it I would not think. I'll never make more than one post a day.
The reason why I started thinking all this is there are so many Holiday things going on now at the theme parks down here.
So I almost have to make a daily post to get them all out there before it's too close to the dates.

I am always surprised that guest blogging is never discussed on HubPages. We all know it's important to have backlinks pointing to our Hubs and websites. We also know that Google is working hard to detect and devalue links which are artificially created - things like directory...

Or rather, how often should a blog be updated to get and hold good traffic? I just can't keep up with all my blogs. I try to make a post every other day on my bigger ones, but only one a week or so on my small ones. However I'm sure the reason why my small blogs are small, meaning not much traffic,...

If you have not seen the post its here - http://blog.hubpages.com/2011/05/followers-hub-traffic/It seem to discuss / declare that the more followers you have, the more traffic you will get to your hubs. But the stats displayed stops at a very vague 50+ followers (get 102 hub views per month). There...
